Oh my ... I don't know why the purple sad face, but I hope all is OK.

coffeejunkie = question?? You probably don't have any cats, right? Otherwise, I don't see how those robins would be nesting on that railing!!

 Hi everyone!

This year we only have a tomato plant - yes a tomato plant... frustrating that our ground in the back is mostly all rock...
:gaah: I would love to have a garden with veggies. Have lots of rose bushes my brother left when he moved. Just plucked 3 orange ones, 1 pink, and 2 red ones in a vase! :loveyou:

The best tomatoes I have grown at this home is when I put one plant into each of three (or was it four?) large planters. I had to stake and tie them, but they could easily be moved if the light was not just right. I like planter gardening now that I can't crawl around on the ground to do the weeding. Have done this with hot peppers (they look so pretty) and herbs, too.

Please do not spite thine eyes looking at any pics of me in my steroided, bloated body. Thanks to all of you for your kind words. They brought tears to my eyes. I love, truly love all of you and I am continually overwhelmed by the kindnesses shown, not only to me, but others. Xo

Lovely! I just wish I could see that statue in real life. It is breathtaking, isn't it.

I'm actually looking at cases of Mason and Ball jars, It's really crazy because I dreaded bottling/freezing/dehydrating time when I was growing up. And the word was "Go BIG or go home". My dad put in a 1/2 acre garden every year and down in Scottsdale, growing season was LONG. He had his hot boxes going in the winter, we had a pretty sizable compost pile, and the irrigation ran through the horse pens into the garden.
Some of the grape vineyards out to the south let you glean their plants after the pickers went through and they charge you by the pound, my grandpa would drag us out there to pick grapes, then he'd bottle grape juice and throw sheets on the roof and make grabs. Between my mom and grandpa, there'd be 2 huge pressure cookers going, jars and lids being boiled and tons of fruits and veggies in huge stainless bowl being cut up and cleaned. My grandpa's dehydrator was on casters and had to be 5' tall, just trays and trays of tomatoes, figs, strawberries, chilis, apples, and sometimes plums. Anything that couldn't be grown in Scottsdale, my gramps would go up to my uncle's place in Layton, Utah, and bring crates of fruit back down with him.
My grandpa used the word "cukes" too!

My mother would tell me stories about how she and her brother were raised by their grandmother after their mom died, and one story was about pressures cookers and them blowing up, and being afraid of them and running through the kitchen when Grandma Cora was canning. So I was surprised that she gave me a pressure cooker when I got married. She died four months after we got married so I didn't get to try it out with her, but I did use it twice - each time leaving the room until the appointed time - then sneaking back in, hunched over and turning off the burner, and running out again until the all the pressure was off and I could open it. It was quick, but I never got over her story of them blowing up ,so I packed it away. It's still packed up in the loft. She gave it to me forty one years ago this month.

Back in the 60s there were women called the "pressure cooker club" and they went to the Debonair Danceland out on Dolphin road; a rough part of town. It was like a singles bar, except everybody was married to somebody else and nobody cared. Lonely and bored housewives went there during the day whilst their husbands were at work, and the joke was that they kept dinner warm at home in a pressure cooker, hence the club's nickname.

My grandson is up in West Virginia with his other grandmother and her husband and has shot his first turkey and is making turkey jerky to bring back home. He left last Friday morning and had completed his goal by Monday, is now bored and wants to come home (with plenty of turkey feathers), but that his flight is on this coming Sunday.

My parents and neighbors would have contest in seeing whose garden came in first biggest and most each year.

shucks, you can save your money on the Rogaine. :giggle: Being bald can't be all that bad when the summer heat arrives. Thank you for your kindness, Zuri. Sometimes a hug, a pat on the head, or a kind word is all we need. It
will eventually work itself out, and Mom may have a new hair-do.

You all are so appreciated.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for saying this. Too much hate in this world. Xo

I agree Zuri, last year there was a Muslim function thing going on in Garland and many were opposed because of it, and that the city was letting it happen, so I don't know if there is/was a tit for tat thing going on. If so, that bothers me greatly that some would think it's a game to play.

OMG! Of course after reading the caveat about acrophobia, I just HAD to watch it anyway. I don't know how people can do that! It reminded me about how Native Americans were employed to build the skyscrapers in NYC. I don't remember all the details, but I'm fascinated that certain kinds of people are okay with doing that kind of stuff!

I thought you were just 50 in April.
Have you been fibbing, you Blanche Devereaux you :hilarious:

Girl- you're catching up to me. :floorlaugh::floorlaugh:

Moi? Yep, I'm 54, 1961. It's a pretty cool year to be born in, and yes, I am catching up!!!!! :floorlaugh:

Now that is one nifty idea I never would have thought of. Hubby made all these pallet looking things for "sidewalks" when we first moved here and had muddy times. Eventually they got moved around for a myriad of uses. Wish I had known about this then. It might be worth having him make a few more for me to experiment again.

ETA: what a great site! Thanks for that link, Bernina.

Zuri, it's now on my 1001 place to see list if I can fly again!

GigiG, did you manage to watch the whole thing??? I couldn't, my stomach started acting funny! :scared: I don't know how anyone could work at those heights. You sure gotta give them credit. I have a difficult time just watching tv when they pan over a tall building. I haven't flown in quite some time and and questioning my ability to do so.

I did, but I had to keep reminding myself that I was just watching a video on my computer in the safety of my own home.

I don't know how people can do that either. I think about beautiful places like the Grand Canyon and driving the Pacific Coast Highway -- even one of my favorite cities, San Francisco -- and how my fear of heights gets in the way of my enjoying them to the fullest. And while I can rationalize that it's all in my head, there's no denying the physical reactions that accompany the experience...

May 6, may be a night for staying in the storm shelter up in Oklahoma. The clouds have been building all day here in North Texas. It could be a bumpy ride for Oklahoma and Kansas Keep them in your prayers.

Thanks for that link, ILikeToBendPages, what amazing people! Sadly, I don't think the Mohawks have ever gotten the kind of respect due them for how much their brave their work helped to create the Manhattan we know today.

I am in awe that human beings can do that kind of stuff without having major anxiety attacks!

I was watching a show with a man crawling through a small opening into a cave and started hyperventilating - I had to keep telling myself that the camera person was already inside the cave.
