A former Trump White House lawyer said the evidence against the former president over his handling of classified documents was now “overwhelming” and would “last an antiquity”, after new charges were filed in the case on Thursday.

“They went after two fine employees yesterday, fine people,” Trump said. “They’re trying to intimidate people so that people go out and make up lies about me. Because I did nothing wrong.”

Ty Cobb ..... “It’s very difficult to imagine how Trump said that his lawyers met with Jack Smith today to explain to him that he hadn’t done anything wrong [Trump’s claim in the election subversion case], on the same day that Jack Smith produces this evidence of overwhelming evidence of additional wrongdoing".

Cobb also said he was sure Trump had been advised by his own lawyers “not to destroy, move [documents] or obstruct this grand jury subpoena in any way.

“So this is Trump going not just behind the back of the prosecutors, this is Trump going behind the back of his own lawyers and dealing with two people” – Nauta and De Oliveira – “who are extremely loyal”.

Ty Cobb, who represented Trump in Mueller investigation, says classified documents case is ‘tight’ after new charges filed

News of the charges against De Oliveria rattled those closest to him. Some members of his family, "couldn't even sleep last night with all of this going on," one family member told CNN.

This person also said that De Oliveria's family was pretty certain that he did not realize the consequences of what Trump was telling him to do when he asked him to delete the security footage, and that given his lack of money, De Oliveria was probably just doing anything that Trump told him to do.

"He isn't familiar with how the government here works and he was probably just being loyal to his boss who is paying his bills," the person told CNN. "The family feels like he got trapped."

Raymond Brion, De Oliveira's neighbor for the last few years, described him as industrious and hardworking. Asked about the Trump indictment, Brion said, "I can't even imagine how he could be implicated in that mess."

Waaah, then he should have cooperated. Well unless he is using Trump's lawyer, who has screwed him over.

The initial indictment charged Trump and his valet, Walt Nauta, but the new indictment involves a third individual — the Mar-a-Lago property manager, Carlos De Oliveira. It’s De Oliveira’s interactions with yet another Mar-a-Lago employee, the director of information technology, that’s raising eyebrows.

NBC News has confirmed that person is named Yuscil Taveras, and he’s described in the court papers “Employee 4.”

According to prosecutors, after Trump’s attorneys were served with a grand jury subpoena requiring he turn over security camera footage from Mar-a-Lago, De Oliveira asked Taveras for a private conversation, where he told him “that ‘the boss’ wanted the server deleted.”

Taveras balked — according to the superseding indictment — but De Oliveira pressed for a solution, saying again, “‘the boss wanted the server deleted’ and ‘what are we going to do?’”

What exactly happened to the server after that point is unclear...

How can trump paying for DeOliver's lawyer not be a conflict of interest ($200,000 IIRC)? It's in effect buying DeOliveri. Trump Spent $10 Million From His PAC on His Legal Bills Last Year
Look at what he's spent THIS year.

Trump pays millions in legal fees, aides allegedly asked about loyalty - The Washington Post
Former president Donald Trump’s political group spent more than $40 million on legal costs in the first half of 2023 to defend Trump, his advisers and others, according to people familiar with the matter, financing legal work that has drawn scrutiny from prosecutors about potential conflicts of interest between Trump and witnesses.

[...]

That total is more than any other expense the PAC has incurred during Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign and, according to federal filings from earlier this month, more than Trump’s campaign raised in the second quarter of 2023. ...

Trump’s advisers say the costs of providing lawyers for dozens of people are necessary and will continue mushrooming as investigations continue, trials are scheduled and the possibility of indictment looms.

Paywall of course. Can someone with access summarize?
The PAC that DT puts his donations in has spent so much on his legal and personal fees (and some other people he is paying lawyer fees for) that is low on money and asked for a $60 million refund from another group that supports him. It’s unknown if/how much a refund was given. Filings are supposed to be released Monday.

Another Washington Post article (which is linked in your linked article) says that the Save America PAC is under investigation.

A wide range of former campaign and White House staffers were subpoenaed back in Sep 2022. A federal grand jury wanted every document and communication about opening the PAC and every dollar raised and spent - in relation to the Jan 6th attack on the Capitol.

It’s a HUGE conflict of interest MOO

Trump’s Save America PAC is paying other lawyers like Washington-based attorney Stanley Woodward, who represents people involved in the special counsel's investigation into both Trump’s handling of classified materials and his efforts to overturn the 2020 election.

Woodward is currently counsel of record for Nauta, and for some period of time also represented Taveras — it’s unclear if he will going forward. But many details in the superseding indictment leave the strong impression that Taveras is cooperating with the prosecutors in some capacity — particularly the evidence surrounding his alleged conversations with De Oliveira about the server.

“This is not rocket science,” Gillers said. “You can’t represent a cooperator and someone fighting an indictment [like Nauta] in the same transaction.”

BBM. What amazes me is that Trump still has allies. I have several family members who voted for Trump and now they are very angry at him because of his many lies. The man betrayed their trust. It all makes Watergate look like a cake walk.

JMO

My uncle has several friends that voted for him but after what he pulled in January 6th, 2021, they said they will never vote for him again
