Here are the fish huts in Aruba where Nancy Grace, and I visited with Beth Holloway while on the island last year. I have circled a broken cinder block. Behind these small huts were boards, crates, buckets and blocks.

Thanks for posting that. Probably jvds was right at the huts. And with so very little change in tide he would not have dragged her far no matter what stage of tide it was. So into a boat. I saw other aerial photos, it's very shallow which means she wouldn't have been carried very far as a loose body along shore.

I think he confessed to a story. Credible but not really. I see that cinderblock, I see that dinghy...

It computes for that he overpowered her, despite her attempts to fight him off, and that he likely looked around for what he could use.

Grabbed a cinderblock (or the other half of a broken one, walked her body out to an anchored boat, reached deeper waters and used the cinderblock and whatever he had access to, for a tether.

It's truly hard to fathom that he was once someone's beloved newborn, toddler, cheeky kindergartener. His current self so devoid of decency, it's like he morphed into evil at a particular age or it was somehow there all along, just waiting to strike, deriving pleasure from (the) pain (he inflicts).

How do you go from Legoes to cinderblocks?

There's more of a mystery to me re how Joran turned out, as I got no bad vibes from his parents. Some screw inexplicably loose. Possibly exacerbated by hanging around at casinos from age 14, his size being his passport and ticket to luck with girls.
As opposed to Watts for example his upbringing and family of origin have red flags all over the place.

The DA thanked the team for the 18 months they spend on the Van Der Sloot case. So whatever details you wanted "teased out", I suspect the team found them. Obviously, I can't know for sure.

Let's be clear: I think it might be 18 months over a 13 year period! Why he was not arrested days after he was on surveillance taking money from the BH during the sting w/FBI is baffling to me. The US Attorney had a live indictment since 2010 to arrest and charge JVDS and did nothing until four months ago!

ETA: And the treaty between Peru and the U.S. that allows a suspect to be temporarily extradited to face trial in the other country has been in place since 2001!

As I posted above, I grew up in Florida (Ft. Lauderdale).

It was the shallowest shores that had the strongest undertows. See Hollywood (FL) or Hallandale, I can't recall which it was. (I moved out of Florida almost a half-century ago.) I loved that beach for body surfing because the strong undertows made for higher waves.

I have never been to Aruba, but I'm not sure it's true that the shallower waters are LESS likely to carry an object out to sea.

I second this. I live in northern Florida in a beach town on the Gulf of Mexico. The Gulf is very shallow right off the beach usually to the first sand bar, but we have very very strong currents at times that will pull you and take you out and down fast. Ask me how I know. You can be only up to your shins or knees and feel the pull on some days. Although I will say - I don’t really believe his story about pushing her into the water - because even here when the currents are strong - drowning victims and dead bodies dumped in the water are most always found.

Thanks for posting that. I saw it before but forgot about it.
It's been revealed that he has a new, younger girlfriend now. So I"m guessing that when he was moved to the Peruvian version of supermax at Challapalca in the far south that Leidy was not able to move there, 850 miles from Lima. So he probably met other girls the same way, selling goods at the prison.

The wording of his love letters is so childish but I give a pass for the new language aspect.

I hope their daughter doesn"t suffer from his actions.

It's not cushy, but I don't know if he returns to this place. Probably as it"s said to be for the worst of the worst. I posted a handful of prison vids earlier when he first was extradited.

No cell phone signals. No tv. (2021 filming) Joran in several places, starting at about 12:00. Says it's his second time there for bad behavior on his part. Appears to have private cell, although another vid says that private rooms must be purchased with bribes. The video is from a visit by Peruvian media to witness the 6 am wakeup. Goes thru the worst of the prisoners, what they are in for, including some limited interviews. There are subtitles in many languages.
I watched all the vids available for Peruvian prisons, apparently rice and potatoes are provided. Which spawns all sorts of money making schemes like drug dealing, etc. Just to get food.
