From what TT's mother has said, she is the one who encouraged him to become more religious. Sounds like a lot of it was off the internet and reading religious literature. After originally being encouraged by his mother, he became religious and then started telling his mother to dress according with Islam, etc.

Thanks for the very interesting article! It gives some information about his life but I am still confused by the huge change to his radical views.

I wonder if IB was also taking the same steps with citizenship to be able to further his career in boxing.

Maybe some get confused on what is perceived as the American dream. A decent education and a nice, comfortable, safe life is just not enough. People want to be rich and famous. There is no shortage of Americans that struggle everyday financially to survive. But our country is not war torn. We have rights here, that other countries don't have if people don't abuse them.

Sometimes I wonder what peoples expectations are based on.

IMO one of the biggest problems surrounding this incident was the delay on the part of the FBI in releasing and official statement to the press. The early, incorrect reports were based on quotes by people who "were not authorized to speak about the incident". Meaning they are lower level people who have "heard something" and are willing to share it. In addition, within the published accounts, incorrect terminology was used at times. I noticed the word "stand off" is used in the above posted article. There was never any stand off.

I know that traditionally the FBI has been slow to share the facts of any FBI-involved incident with the press. They really need to review this strategy in this age of the internet, blogs, texting, and tweeting.

I think the FBI should have just make an early, brief, and correct statement. Then there is a headline for a day that says "FBI shoots suspected murderer 6 times" and by the next day any further updates are on Page 31 of the newspaper.

Oh, and for whoever mentioned it, yes, it has been established in the past that reporters (and trial lawyers) read here at websleuths. What better place for them to get a feel for public opinion on an issue or story without having to navigate the numerous obscenity-laden posts that appear on so many sites?

I find the fact they knew so much about his life here very interesting. I'd like to know how that information was gathered.

And, the FBI says they asked for more info, a follow up, and received nothing.

The FSB didn't even know he was back in their country. Seems they were more "on top of" what was going on here than in their own yard.

JMO

The article says that reports show local officials in Dagestan knew he was there, hard to believe the FSB didn't. The FSB is self-serving. They're not interested in what TT could do in the USA, they are interested in what he could have done in Russia or nearby areas.

I presume FBI wasn't interested because they assumed that if he was going to do something, it was going to be in Russia.
I don't believe they did a good investigation of him at all.
There are a lot of things they could have done.

nice link thanks

I don't see why people don't understand this, or find fault with it.

It's realy all so very simple. If you do not want to be shot and possibly killed you never attack a person who has a badge, a gun and the legal backing to use it.

Reading the last few pages.. is tinfoil on sale?
:floorlaugh: TA ! I think it has been on sale for a few days. Some folks seem to have an agenda other than discussing this case, IMHO.

She is described as an estranged wife, and Mr. Todashev is described as having a girlfriend. So how does his wife know who he did or didn't talk to?

Or what subjects were discussed. If they were not in the apartment then they don't know Jack.

Boston Police Department officials said they are worried about long-term psychological effects of the Marathon bombings on their officers and are searching for ways to pay for more mental health specialists.

“We have an entire department that was impacted by the Marathon and many, many officers who saw things they should never have seen and endured things they should never have endured,” said Superintendent-in-Chief Daniel Linskey. “We’re going to have make sure they’re getting services not just for the first 12 to 24 hours [after the bombing], but the first week, the first month, the first year, and next five years down the road.”

Can anyone read Russian?

ETA: I am wondering specifically about the May 9 visit he supposedly made to see her.thx

again, not sure how he was going to do that since he was out on bond, but apparently that was his story to her.

I'm finding this all odd given they were separated, living in two different states and he had a girlfriend.

It doesn't appear that they had any real relationship, throughout the whole time period from when they were married until his death.

I hate to suggest this, but was this marriage just more playing of the system or maybe he was using her and she was that naive?

Now that he's dead, he was the best husband in the world, she knew everything that he did and who he interacted with despite the fact that they were rarely together and also the fact that they didn't even live in the same state.

Come on!!!!

What's the deal with people that are A$$ hats and when they die all of a sudden they were the best person in the world? Or, as seen frequently, no matter what the circumstances in the crime, they were always a good guy that no one would have expected them to do the things they do?

"I hate to suggest this, but was this marriage just more playing of the system or maybe he was using her and she was that naive?"

It seems that all the relatives heard from are playing some kind of game. And it seems to be a game that involves lots of drama, posturing, and inflammatory statements. Statements derogatory to the United States.

I agree wholeheartedly with the poster who wrote that if an immigrant does not like it here they should just GO BACK HOME!

I have no idea what went down that ended up getting the guy in Florida shot. But if I were to place my trust somewhere, based on what I've seen and heard of the Chechens/Russians, whatever - I'd be much more inclined to place my trust in the FBI.

I'd be willing to bet the hothead did SOMETHING that was interpreted as a threatening move. And one thing we do know, the FBI is NOT playing games!

We don't know what the guy's autopsy showed. Drugs? Pain meds for his bad knee? Roid rage? Law enforcement officers have to deal with it all, don't they?

Perhaps this incident will be taken as a lesson by the next hothead who is interviewed.

I am sad and depressed tonight.
I am very biased about how I perceive acts against our countrymen because my children are third generation career military service members.
Based on titles, I guess we have already prevented two "World Wars." But judging from this latest example that these brothers have shown us, I am doubtful about how successful we've been in our "War on Terror." I believe this war is much more insidious and would not be surprised if there continues to be more and more attacks similar to this one ~ perpetrated by individuals who have sketchy to no connection to any "known" terrorist groups. Dang, if our government resists classifying Nidal Hasan's slaughtering at Ft Hood as terrorist activity, I guess I should not be shocked that there are those who are, before all facts are in, comfortable suspecting the government's actions more than the suspects of wrong doing.
I believe it is possible that there might have been mistakes made in Orlando but I don't believe, if it is true, that LE was amiss in their judgement of how endangered they were (and who can judge this other than the people there?), that there was any planned action on their part to kill this likely helpful, valuable witness.
Just hurts my heart to think that so many have sacrificed so much to, at this point, get so little support and so much suspicion.

THANK YOU. I have the same melancholy feelings. So many so quick to judge the agents and give this guy the benefit of the doubt. :frown:

I share your concerns for future terror acts within our borders, but take heart,
I firmly believe the suspicion and lack of support for our LE is a minority with an agenda. It is just so easy for anyone today to communicate hate and dissent via these public boards, but it doesn't mean they are in the majority, or for that matter even American. The good people of Boston will continue to hold the Boston Marathon, and every day I see those who have lost limbs continue to publicly demonstrate their American spirit at ball games, and public outings!

Keating said he learned more from Russian officials than from the FBI.

http://bostonherald.com/news_opinion/local_coverage/2013/06/keating_russia_shared_todashev_info

U.S. Rep. William Keating, who returned yesterday from a trip to Russia, said Russian intelligence officials sent information about 27-year-old Ibragim Todashev to their counterparts in the United States before he was fatally shot May 22 in Orlando, Fla., after what the FBI called a violent confrontation.

Todashev was one of many Russian nationals named in the April 21 letter to U.S. officials, said Keating.

Keating said the missive was not a warning letter about Todashev, but he told the Herald his name came up during intelligence information sharing.

Keating said the letter gave Tsarnaev’s date of birth, his cellphone number, information about his boxing career, weight and Golden Gloves matches. It talked about his wife and mother, giving the mother’s Skype number. The up-close look at Tsarnaev’s life raised questions, which went unanswered, about how the FSB had accumulated so much information about a family in Boston.

Another report on Keating's trip & info given by FSB.
