Timeline and Media Thread *NO DISCUSSION*

I don’t know why this popped into my mind today—but wow, solved! With good sleuthing, she was identified. Such an anticlimactic solution; an unhappy teen—perhaps showing the earliest signs of mental illness— ran away and started a new life. I was really happy to read that her daughter now has...

VERDICT WATCH - Sentencing of Jodi Arias - Retrial Day 45

This sums it up perfectly. After watching (and reading here) for years, there's not much else to say while waiting than, "OMG." Prayers are also for the jury. How difficult it must be to make such a weighty decision--- without anything resembling all the facts. I so wish they knew all that...

How much would you pay for some of Mick Jaggers hair?

Love Mick. Love the Stones. Exile on Main Street is the best album, ever. That said, I think Mick should pay me to take his hair. ETA: really? He's supposed to stop doing what he loves because he's '"got enough money" and is "old?" Nah. He can rock on.

Penalty Phase - Verdict Watch #4

I'm disappointed, and so sad for the Alexanders. But really---there will be no closure for them, even with a verdict. They will be struggling with this for years to come and, while I so hoped that THIS aspect would be completed today (and supported them in their wish for the DP), this may well...

    penalty phase #10

I agree that the jurors' attire today shows special reverence for the Alexander family. I am offended, though, by the tone toward this particular juror. "Big boy pants?" "...actual buttons." "...Will wonders never cease?" Why the derision? He's clearly taken his job very seriously to date...

    penalty phase #10

I schlepped this from the last thread, because, well--I think it's important to make the distinction between Jodi Arias and other women. It would be a good point about social double standards and labeling if we were discussing a woman who represented any significant segment of the female...

aggravation phase #8 - VERDICT - Extreme Cruelty PROVEN

brought from the last thread, originally posted by WindyCityGirl I, too, am from Illinois, where there is a moratorium on the death penalty---for VERY good reason. I, too, am anti-DP---not just because of the record in Illinois, but because it is contrary to my faith. Yes, I am anti-DP...

    Aggravation phase #7

Grrrr. Adrenaline causes blood vessels to CONSTRICT (during fight or flight). This reduces the rate of blood loss. Prolonging death. I hope Juan catches this. ACK! Horn didn't even bring this up. Yes, the heart beats faster. The blood vessels constrict. Fatal injuries still are fatal injuries...

a view from the inside: observations from our own court observers #9

Oh. Thank God. Bless the jurors. And bless the Alexanders.

    verdict watch 5/7/2013 #2

Wait. Because they have not come back with a verdict as rapidly as you would have liked, they're "rag-tag morons??" C'mon. They sat and listened to a complicated case (with MUCH subterfuge added) for over four months. They asked intelligent and thoughtful questions. They could not even talk...

    Verdict Watch 05/06/2013 and 05/07/2013

Oh, for heaven's sake. Jodi admitted she killed Travis. Juan Martinez had no need to "conspire" with anyone about this murderess. The sequence of events is, really, of no importance. None. She killed him three times over----giving lie to her "self-defense" argument. (Self defense = doing what...

    Verdict Watch 05/06/2013 and 05/07/2013

The National Institute of Mental Health views the DSM (any version) as merely a "field guide" for diagnosis of mental illness. It lists criteria for specific disease entities, but the degree of overlap is so great that their recommendation is that clinicians move away from the DSM (again, using...

    Verdict Watch 05/04/ and 05/05/2013

Respectfully snipped. And respectfully, I disagree. I agree that coercion to change one's vote is inappropriate. However, I believe the process whereby the jury pores over evidence, sifts through facts, and discusses the various options and evidence that supports them---all in order to reach...

    Verdict Watch 05/04/ and 05/05/2013

It's not a spiritual thing. It's a BRAIN thing. Jodi Arias is missing a crucial "microchip," for lack of a better term. She is lacking the neurological connections that permit humans to form real attachments with other humans. She cannot form empathy. She cannot form remorse. For her, the...

    Verdict Watch 05/04/ and 05/05/2013

Fortunately, the jurors are not unsuspecting prospective dates being offered sexual favors. They are jurors who have spent months learning of the of this woman, her psychopathy, her disordered thinking, her evil wiles. To the jurors, Jodi Arias does not represent a fun romp on at a Vegas...

    Verdict Watch 05/04/ and 05/05/2013

It's my understanding that she does not have the latitude to exercise leniency, but rather must defer to the jury's decision.

    Verdict Watch 05/04/ and 05/05/2013

I think it's far less likely, in the "only takes one person" scenario, that 11 will cave, and 1 will determine the outcome. Hung juries are very unusual in cases this huge. In a case with cost astronomical, any judge is loathe to permit deliberation to cease on the grounds of irreconcilable...

    Verdict Watch 05/04/ and 05/05/2013

Respectfully snipped. It's quite common for the hand wielding the knife to get cut. The blade and handle can become very slippery with blood, and the hand can slide down onto the blade inadvertently. Then, perpetrators tend to leave their DNA behind, a la Jodi Arias, for identification.
