The husband of a missing teacher made an emotional appeal Tuesday morning for her safe return, speaking to reporters outside Leah Hirschel Walsh's family home in Rockville Centre.

The husband, William Walsh, stood in his in-laws' driveway at around 11 a.m. Tuesday, handing out copies of his wife's photo to reporters.

"Please get the picture out. We just want her back," Walsh said, his eyes red and welling with tears.

"You can have my cars. You can have everything. I just want my wife back."
n response to questions, Walsh said the last time he heard from his wife was when he got a text message from her Monday morning.

Asked where she is, he said, "I got no clue." Walsh, a tall, lean man wearing khaki pants and a Trump Taj Mahal casino bomber jacket, arrived at the parents' home at around 10 a.m. in a yellow Mustang convertible registered to the missing woman.

At first he declined to comment, but then at around 11 a.m. he emerged from the house to give out the photos.

Cops launch search for missing Glen Cove teacher

(10/28/08) ROCKVILLE CENTRE - Police are searching for a teacher from Rockville Centre that suddenly disappeared.

Officials say they found 29-year-old Leah Walsh's car Monday at around 6:30 a.m. The car was found with a flat tire near exit 9 on the Seaford-Oyster Bay Expressway.
Walsh is a special education teacher in the Glen Cove School District. School officials say she never showed up for work Monday.
The school’s executive director released this statement: “The school for Language and Communication Development would like to express our concern for Leah’s family and her safety. We will help with the investigation in any way possible.”
Police say she was driving a black 2005 Ford Focus with a large Mets sticker on the back windshield.
Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.

Corrections to this story: Leah's parents live in RVC, she is from Bethpage. She also works for a private Special Ed. School in Glen Cove, not the GCSD.

GARDEN CITY, N.Y. - Investigators are trying to locate a schoolteacher who disappeared after contacting her husband to say her car had broken down with a flat tire on the side of a Long Island highway.
Leah Walsh was reported missing sometime after 6:30 a.m. Monday. Her 2005 black Ford Focus was found with a flat tire on the northbound shoulder of the Seaford-Oyster Bay Expressway near Bethpage.
The 29-year-old woman's purse was found nearby, but little other evidence has turned up.
William Walsh made an emotional plea Tuesday outside his in-laws' home in Rockville Centre.
Said Walsh: "You can have my cars. You can have everything. I just want my wife back."

I heard about this on the news this morning.

Are there any other witnesses who actually saw her on the side of the road?

My first thought was someone accidently hit her while she was on the side of the road.

It is so scary to think that there are enough weirdo's out there running around that you can get a flat at 6:30am, a murdering rapist just happens to drive by and abducts you.......not that is necessarily the case but it does happen.

gaia--
I totally agree, my God, it's like someone is "waiting in the wings" for the perfect moment to snatch someone up. How many dangerous perps are in our midst day in and day out? The thought makes me shudder. She's a cute gal...I hope and pray she's alright.

Wow! This is crazy.

I hope they find her and that she's alright.

Whoopsie! Thanks for showing me the thread!
Sorry mods, I don't blame you if you need to merge.

I'm nervous for a few reasons:

This is a nice, quiet, stretch of highway bordered by residential areas and isn't very "woodsy" in some spots. However, she pulled over near Bethpage state park, which is woodsy and has several bicycle trails. I am nervous that there may be someone lurking, and it isn't known for that. Scary!

I'm also afraid because in nearby Tackapausha preserve, there are known squatters. My former students used to encounter them when they went into those woods to drink  and once, they worked on a community project to provide them with warm clothing. I am afraid that maybe these homeless camps have stretched out to the Seaford-Oyster Bay expressway.

Sorry about the other thread in the "Missing persons information and support" forum. I'll post links here.

Let's see, hubby with a taste for gambling, driving missing wife's sweet ride, because she decided to drive the boring black Ford Focus with the bad tires on the day she went missing.

If I had a cool yellow Mustang convertible, I'd be driving it to work every day.

I'll be interested to find out:

* When was the last time someone other than Hubby saw her alive?

* What is their financial situation? Does he have a job?

* Is she pregnant?

* Where and when did their cell phones ping, and did he text her back ?

* Does he have any un-explained scratches or bruises?

If she pulled of the freeway with a flat tire at 6:30 Monday morning, someone should have seen her. How close was she to an exit, or intersection?

If I had a flat, I'd try to pull over in a brightly lit or very conspicuous area. Was her car in a place where it was hard for other motorists to see it?

Hi MrsG--
Pardon my ignorance but what's a squatter? Is that a homeless person?
Thanks.

Wow Susan, you're good! ;) I read that and his sweatshirt completely went over my head. I did wonder what he did for a living though.

Ok, has anyone found her MySpace? Maybe we should look into this more.:waitasec:

I'm not sayin' anyone did anything, just wonderin'?

The article must have been updated, because it says that her place of employment reported her missing, not her Hubby. Her father spotted her car hours later, but he is a school bus driver and had a load of kids to deliver, so he called her husband, who drove out to the disabled vehicle before contacting LE. There was a sticker on the car indicating that the person who checks for abandoned vehicles along that hiway stickered it at 6:30 am Monday.

Leah reportedly leaves for work 6:15- 6:30 am every weekday. Not enough time to have a flat and disappear into thin air without being seen by the 6:30 am sticker-person, in my opinion.

I don't have a myspace...anyone want to check out the Walsh's?

Susan

Bingo!

Teacher Leah Walsh Missing after "Huge Fight" with Husband
A close friend of the teacher, Lucas Bean, told the Daily News that on Sunday Leah text-messaged him, saying she had had a "huge fight" with her husband that day.
Bean added that Leah, who was traveling from her parents' place in Rockville Centre to her apartment in Bethpage, wanted to tell him something very important but needed to wait until she got out of the car with her husband.

"She was in the car with him texting to me," he said. "That was Saturday around 7 p.m. They were in a huge fight."
Bean, 32, who lives in Los Angeles, said he never found out what the fight was about, and he didn't learn Walsh was missing until a reporter called him.
He said Leah and William Walsh had been married a few years but had already been separated once and had only recently reconciled.

Oh MY God...Here we go AGAIN. Another wife missing after argument with husband. What is it with dirt bags these days? My prayers to her and her family.

LE will most definitely look at cell phone records and pings to see if his story jives. For his story to look even remotely true, she will need to have placed a call before 6:30AM to his cellphone. I doubt the phone records will show that but we'll see. Also, they'll see if Lucas Bean and Leah's phone records show the texting between the two the day before. Curious to know what the results are with both.
