The diary entries of Elizabeth Bain serve as the last testament of the 22-year-old student who disappeared almost two decades ago on her way to class at the University of Toronto's Scarborough campus.
Ms. Bain's writings, frozen in time, expressed her hopes and fears, love-lorn anxiety and even dark thoughts of suicide, standing at times in contrast to the soft, gentle, lovely young woman recalled by family and friends at the first trial.

June 19-20, 1990
Twenty-two-year-old Elizabeth Bain leaves home to check a schedule at the U. of T.'s Scarborough campus. When she doesn't return, her worried mother calls police.
June 22-24, 1990
Fears grow after the missing woman's car is discovered at an auto body shop not far from her home. A large bloodstain is ominously found in the backseat, but there's no sign of Bain. Cops immediately turn to her boyfriend, 24-year-old Robert Baltovich. He's questioned by detectives for hours, but some of his responses arouse their suspicions. There are massive searches for the absent woman during most of that summer, but her body is never found. Police conclude she's been murdered.

The possibility that the Scarborough rapist might have been responsible for Baltovich's girlfriend Elizabeth Bain's death and disappearance two years earlier was raised during his first trial in 1992, but the evidence was sketchy, Heather McArthur said in pre-trial arguments last December.

The jury knew only that no arrest had been made in a series of increasingly violent rapes in Scarborough. The public did not yet know the name Paul Bernardo

Elizabeth Bain follow-up

It’s closed.”
With those words, Toronto Police admitted this month the investigation into the 1990 disappearance of local resident Elizabeth Bain has come to an end.
Bain, whose body has never been found, was last seen on June 19 of that year by the tennis courts of the University of Toronto’s Scarborough campus. A car with traces of her blood was found abandoned a few days later.
After Robert Baltovich, a man originally found guilty of second degree murder in the case was acquitted this past April because of insufficient evidence to convict him, the investigation could no longer continue, says Brian Raybould, Toronto’s head of homicide.

Liz was a beautiful, smart, kind girl. Her family has had no closure or peace, it's a very tragic story. I pray one day they can have closure, but suspect that will never happen. :(

I think of Elizabeth Bain still to this very day. I wonder where she is and I hope she is found someday. She has been missing since June 19, 1990 from Scarborough, Ontario, Canada.

I suspect somewhere in cottage country, I know some others that think underneath Kingston Road

Still thinking about Elizabeth Bain and hoping she is found someday. Elizabeth, you will never be forgotten.

Could be completely unrelated. There has been some forensic activity for the last month in the valley of Scarborough Campus and it is very "hush hush"(told to me by a relative who works on campus).

FWIW, I've always thought Bernardo was involved in her disappearance. And the way she wore her dark hair bears a resemblance to that of Kristen French.

:twocents:

matou, is the area right down in the valley or closer to the area where her car was found regarding the forensics thing

I heard it was near the tennis courts and little river area. I will get more info from my relative and post soon.

Where was her car found exactly? I've never been able to find out that specific piece of info.

And welcome to WS!:welcome5:

on morrish road, just north of kingston road and south of old kingston road across from the 3R Auto body place, there is an open field there, city owned i believe, 3R auto body used to park cars on the edge of the street with the cars facing the 3r auto, and thank you for the welcome,

Thinking of EB's car being moved and her dark eyes and hair and Sonia Varaschin comes to mind..
RW is someone I could see hanging around near the tennis courts perhaps pining for, or angry at his former Asian girlfriend. jmo.
