2nd dog handler testifies in Casey Anthony trial
Computer expert testifies in Casey Anthony trial

"Snip" Atlanta Journal Constitution National / World News 12:46 p.m. Wednesday, June 8, 2011

Casey Anthony enters the courtroom for the start of the 13th day of her murder trial June 8, 2011, in Orlando, Fla. Anthony is charged with killing her daughter Caylee in the summer of 2008.

Osborne testified that searches were also done on the Anthony family computer for the name Zenaida Fernandez-Gonzalez. Casey Anthony initially told authorities that a nanny by that name kidnapped her toddler Caylee. But the searches were not until July 16, 2008.

Under cross-examination, defense attorney Baez pointed that though there were two user-created accounts on Anthony's desktop, that didn't mean that no one else could have used the computer for the chloroform searches.

Casey Anthony pleaded not guilty and her defense says Caylee accidentally drowned in the family's swimming pool.

Ask The Judge: Juror Activities, Appeal Possibilities
Judge O.H. Eaton Jr., WESH Legal Analyst

POSTED: 11:05 am EDT June 8, 2011

Appeal Issues?

Dear Judge Eaton: Do you think there are any appeal issues that may result in reversal of a conviction? -- Catlina, Bradenton, Fla.

Some of the potential issues on appeal will be: (1) admissibility of Dr. Vass’ testimony on the results of the new and novel scientific test (the “sniff test”); (2) the admissibility of the defendant’s statements to the police; (3) the admissibility of the statements recorded at the jail; (4) the opinions of the medical examiner; (5) the sufficiency of the evidence to establish premeditation (assuming the jury finds the defendant guilty); and (6) the admissibility of the evidence provided by the cadaver dogs. There will no doubt be others. I never predict the ruling of an appellate court. -- Judge O.H. Eaton

Ocala/Gainesville lawyer defending Casey Anthony

By Suevon Lee Staff writer
Published: Wednesday, June 8, 2011 at 2:05 p.m.

Ocala-based attorney Dorothy Clay Sims, signed on as a member of Anthony's defense team in September.

Sims and law partner Elizabeth Stakenborg run a practice in both Ocala and Gainesville that specializes in Social Security disability claims and the cross-examination of medical experts.

Sims' expertise in the latter field — she has written a book entitled “Exposing the Deceptive Defense Doctor” — is the reason many believe she was brought on to Anthony's defense team.

Day 24: Computer Expert - K-9 Handler Testify In Casey Murder Trial

"Snip" Updated: 12:10 pm EDT June 8, 2011

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. -- A police computer forensics expert took the witness stand Wednesday on day 24 of Casey Anthony's murder trial. Sandra Osborne of the Orange County Sheriff's Office was called by prosecutors to testify about photos and Internet searches on a computer at Casey's home. Prosecutors have said previously that an Internet search on chloroform was conducted with the computer.

Another K-9 Handler Testified today.

Sheaffer said ,the back yard grave suggestion may affect jurors significantly.

“I think they're gonna be horrified that she would attempt to bury that body in the back yard where her parents live,” said Sheaffer.

Prosecutors believe Casey couldn't bury Caylee, so she put the child's body in her trunk for days.

Casey Anthony and the media coverage of her appearance
"Snip" By Sarah Anne Hughes
Newspapers post pictures of a scantily clad and dancing Anthony next to stories about her daughter’s murder. Nancy Grace dubbed her “Tot Mom.” One newscaster even referred to her “*advertiser censored*” on air. This over-the-top coverage of Anthony’s looks makes it seem like she’s facing two trials: one in a courtroom, the other in the media.

This reaction is not wholly unusual in a woman’s trial. “Had the Salem witch trials been televised, I’m sure [the media] would have been talking about how seductive and satanic they looked,” Michele Weldon, a professor at the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University, said in a phone interview. Weldon, who runs a blog about women in the media, Every Woman News, adds “the damnation of women by dress code is not new.”

In conversations with investigators, Adams claimed Anthony made two references to Gonzalez in their correspondence. The first indicated "there was no Zenaida" and "Zenaida didn't do this." The second reference claimed Gonzalez was a childhood friend.

“Anthony said she asked Zenaida Gonzalez to watch Caylee so she could prepare to move away with her daughter.

Lee Anthony, who has also been on the witness stand, was not asked about the alleged abuse, but Casey Anthony wrote to her jailhouse pen pal.

Day 13: Witnesses found 'chloroform' search on Casey Anthony's computer
"Snip" By Jacqueline Fell and Adam Longo, Team Coverage
Last Updated: Wednesday, June 08, 2011 5:24 PM

Kevin StengerSgt. Stenger is the supervisor of the Orange County Sheriff's computer crimes unit. He said he reviewed Osborne's work, and assisted her after she found the search for "chloroform."

Stenger confirmed that the search was found in unallocated "deleted space" on the computer, and said the searches for chloroform were done on the Mozilla Firefox browser from March 17 to March 21, 2008.

He then acknowledged that whoever specifically searched for "chloroform" then visited MySpace afterward.

As prosecutors published Bradley's report to the jury, he confirmed that someone used Google to search for "chloroform" on March 17, 2008.
He said one search returned the Wikipedia entry for chloroform. Other results on Wikipedia included "hand to hand combat," "head injuries," "chest trauma" and "ruptured spleen," all within 15 minutes of each other.

Bradley also said someone searched for "how to make chloraform" on March 21, 2008, noting a spelling error in the search. The user then clicked on a link generated by Google that asked, "Did you mean how to make chloroform?"

Other searches Bradley found included "making weapons of household products" and "neck breaking."

Law students closely watching Casey Anthony trial
"Snip" By Tiffany Greene, Reporter
Last Updated: Wednesday, June 08, 2011 5:10 PM

ORLANDO --
It's must-see TV. But rather than watch the Casey Anthony trial on the tube, Olivia Hock, a third-year law student from Barry University, decided to see it live.

"I saw the day when Lee Anthony testified," said Hock, one of many law students sprinkled throughout the long lines waiting for a coveted seat inside the courtroom.

Whether it's inside the courtroom or talked about in a classroom, one thing is certain: Casey Anthony's murder trial has transformed into a language of learning.
