Throughout the Casey Anthony murder trial, senior writer Michelle Tauber will be providing exclusive behind-the-scenes impressions and insights from PEOPLE's up-close courtroom seat

Casey Anthony cried when her mother took the stand and shared her last memory of Casey's 2-year-old daughter Caylee alive.

She cried when her brother's girlfriend recalled Casey's "amazing" bond with Caylee.

And she cried during the intense past two days of her first-degree murder trial, when graphic photos of her daughter's remains have chilled the courtroom.

The unnerving, unknowable question that looms over Casey's tears: Whom are they for?

Casey Anthony: Is defendant being humanized?

Casey Anthony’s emotions this morning continued to draw heavy examination on television.

Legal analyst Brad Conway said Anthony was “crying these big tears — I’m just not buying it.” Conway, who used to represent George and Cindy Anthony, refused to speculate on what defense lawyer Dorothy Clay Sims might be saying to comfort Anthony.

Yet legal analyst Judge O.H. Eaton Jr., thinks this emotional display of Casey is genuine and he thinks the jury is recognizing that.”

Do you agree?

WFTV-Channel 9’s Bill Sheaffer reminded viewers that jurors are not supposed to consider sympathy or anger in coming up with a verdict.

A dramatic moment of the morning came that caused Casey to sob, and her attorney tried to console her. The judge took an extended break to give Casey time to compose herself.”

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Casey Anthony melted down in tears as a witness testified that Caylee's remains had been chewed and spread by animals.

Shultz testified about the intensive process of filtering through foliage and dirt to find bone fragments.

He said that some of the bones had been chewed on by animals.

Prosecutors showed jurors images of the bones and the skeletal remains of tiny hands.

Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Jan Garavaglia Testimony"

Her testimony is likely to bring a lot of fire from Anthony's defense team.

In a deposition, Garavaglia argued that it is well within her right to consider the circumstances of the duct tape near Caylee's mouth and the fact that the body was dumped.

Dr. Warner Spitz said scientific evidence does not support a finding Dr.Garavaglia that Caylee's cause of death was homicide by undetermined means. Spitz performed a second autopsy on Caylee's remains.

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. -- Casey Anthony became angry and cried as Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Jan Garavaglia, also known as Dr. G., described photos that were shown to the jury of Caylee's autopsy.

Dr. G. said, Homicide is based on three main things. When a child isn't reported, that's something we look for; for foul play. The body was hidden, also the body is also in a closed container, a suitcase or a bag, like this one was. The last would be the duct tape, located somewhere on the lower half of the face."

Dr. G. testified that Caylee's toxicology tests were negative for chloroform and Xanax.

Michael Warren, forensic anthropologistt estified that he's only seen cases where the jaws of homicide victims remained closed when tape was placed over their mouths before death.

"Were also looking at the hair mat and were looking at the roots that were going through the hair mat," said Dr. G.

Dr. G. explained how Caylee's remains were found entwined with growth and infested with bugs. She was asked to explain why Caylee's death was ruled a homicide, even though there was not a cause of death confirmed.

"Do you have an opinion as to the manner of death in this case?" Dr. G was asked.

"Yes," she replied. "Homicide.
Dr. G. continued to explain why she ruled Caylee's death a homicide.

"No child should have duct tape on their face when they die. There's no reason to put duct tape on the face after they die," said Dr. G.

Anthropology professor Michael Warren, also confirmed that the duct tape had to be placed on the face before decomposition and that it would have been the duct tape that helped hold Caylee's jawbone or mandible in place.

Anthony broke down in tears in front of jurors after hearing that animals chewed on her daughter's bones — the second day in a row.

Prosecutors handling the Casey Anthony trial spent Friday showing jurors more graphic images. Jurors saw recovered skeleton remains from Caylee laid out in an anatomically correct display.

They heard forensic anthropology professor Schultz identify two large leg bones and say, "these have actually been chewed on by animals."

Former Anthony defense attorney Andrea Lyon, said such evidence can have "a deadening effect" or a "nullifying effect."
"There's a point at which you can oversaturate the jury," Lyon said.

When asked about Casey Anthony's crying, Lyon asked, "How could she not be? How could she be anything but upset?"

Still, Lyon acknowledged that studies of death-penalty jurors show they can react in vastly different ways when defendants display emotions the way Casey Anthony has this week. Jurors may sympathize or sense insincerity and decide to punish.

"It's difficult to know if the jury is going to feel sympathy or feel as if she's being phony," Lyon said.

Judge allows use of graphic video in Casey Anthony trial
"Snip" By the CNN Wire Staff June 11, 2011 6:19 a.m. EDT

Orlando (CNN) -- The defense is calling the prosecution's use of a graphic video that features a smiling Caylee Anthony with a skull and duct tape superimposed over her face highly prejudicial, saying it only serves to inflame the jurors.

The accusation came in the third week of the trial of Caylee's mother, 25-year-old Casey Anthony, who faces seven counts in her daughter's death, including first-degree murder, aggravated child abuse and misleading investigators.

Casey Anthony: How did Caylee skull animation go over?

"Snip" posted by halboedeker on June, 10 2011

Jackie Fell described the video as “a picture of a smiling little girl and then it morphed essentially into a skull.” News 13 reported that juror No. 5 stopped watching the video and Casey Anthony mouthed her disgust.

Tony Pipitone said he looked at the jury when the video was shown. “It was clear they were watching every second of it. It lasted about four to five minutes,” Pipitone said. His take: Juror No. 4, who has trouble judging others, had a forlorn look. Juror No. 5 stopped watching after a while, then looked toward the defense table. Casey Anthony kept her eyes downcast.

Bob Kealing said that Anthony turned angry when the video by Dr. Michael Warren was shown a first time, away from the jury.

Could Body Tampering Allegation Shake Case?
"Snip" By MIGUEL SANCHO and ALICE GOMSTYN (@AliceGomstyn)
June 11, 2011

Kronk said in 2008 that he "discovered and reported to my management and appropriate authorities the remains of a human body located in a wooded area."

Recently, a lawyer for Kronk released a statement rejecting Baez's claims, saying: "This defense theory regarding Mr. Kronk is completely false. The suggestion that Mr. Kronk took possession of Caylee's remains is totally lacking in logic or explanation. It did not happen."

The prosecution has not directly addressed the allegation that the body was tampered with but forensic anthropologist John Schultz testified Friday that Caylee's vertebrae were found all in the same place, a sign that the body was intact when it was brought there. He estimated that the body may have been there as long as six months.

Day 16: Coffin Flies, Garbage Vs. Trash
Forensic Entomologist Discusses Insects Found On Remains

"Snip" June 11, 2011

Forensic entomologist Dr. Neal Haskell testified that Caylee Anthony's body was in the woods since June or early July of 2008.
The types of bugs found at the crime scene indicated Caylee's body had been there a long time.

Haskell also testified the number of flies found on the body were not in the tens of thousands, and only one leg of a fly was found in the trash bag retrieved at Johnson's , the tow yard that Casey's car had been taken to.

Haskell also testified bugs found in Casey's car trunk showed Caylee's body was there for a short time before being removed

Jurors appeared bored during the testimony of Haskell. They enjoyed one moment when Haskell made the distinction between garbage and trash.

Today more photos of the crime scene were entered into evidence and some showed bones.

Caylee's skull was 19 feet 8 inches from the road.

Saturday marks day 27, including jury selection, of Casey's murder trial
Insect Expert Testifies On Flies Found In Casey's Trunk

"Snip" Updated: 12:07 pm EDT June 11, 2011

Haskell, a forensic entomologist testified that the insects found in Casey's trunk were related to decomposition.

Haskell tstified the flies were feeding on a substance ( decomposition fluid) on the paper towels. He said the source of the decomposition fluids that attracted the bugs probably would have been in the car for several days.

Haskell said, insect evidence at the scene where Caylee’s remains were recovered indicated that the body had been out there for months, that the evidence is consistent with a body being left inside the trunk for a short period of time and then removed.

Prosecutors believe Caylee's body was kept in the car before being left in a wooded area near Casey's home.

Casey Anthony case: a morbid sensation

The tale of an Orlando mom and her dead daughter has become a morbid sensation, with twists, turns, lies, tears — and an audience of millions.

ORLANDO -- Hours before sunrise, they line up on the sidewalk in front of the Orange County Courthouse by the dozens — an interior decorator from Savannah, a true-crime blogger from Illinois, a former Miami International Airport air traffic controller — all hoping for a chance to witness the blockbuster murder trial of Casey Anthony.

Armed with coffee and energy drinks, novels and crosswords puzzles, they sit or sprawl on the sidewalk waiting for 5:30 a.m. when the all-out — and much-videoed — sprint often begins to secure seats in the courtroom to watch a slice of the trial that has both fascinated and repelled the American public.
