Australia Australia - Gordana Kotevski 16, Newcastle, 24 Nov 1994

Bo is this what you are talking about ?

"Years passed before she was aware that she had potentially seen an abduction in action, and it was only when detectives from Strike Force Fenwick contacted her in 1998 that she put the pieces together."

"Small says that a major flaw in the initial investigation was revealed when the members of Strike Force Fenwick were collating all the unsolved case files, and records from the cold case files.

“One of the problems with her case,” Small explained, “was the potential exhibits, some of the property that was seized in her matter, had been handed back to the family, or destroyed prior to the investigation being as thorough as it should have been.”

Small noted that the State Coroner “had a fair bit to say about this”, as it no doubt hampered the case."

Yes, Gordana’s alleged abduction and probable murder was just one of the cases Strike Force Fenwick was set up to re-investigate.

"UPDATED
April 8 2019
On Monday, Ms Kotevski said that she had spoken to lead detective Kristi Faber, who will be one of four officers reviewing the case.

"She will be working on the review with three other detectives. That gives me hope that everything will be looked at with fresh eyes," Ms Kotevski said.

Detective Faber's career has been dedicated in part to investigating cases of historic child sex abuse. In 2015, she was recognised as one of the state's top police officers.

"We have been waiting too long for answers," Ms Kotevski said."

In December, Gordana's family ran a billboard campaign calling for information from the community. Ms Kotevski suspected it could have led police to review her daughter's case.

‘[...] Australian Federal Police has just released a photo-accurate image of how Gordana would likely look today as a 41-year-old woman.

Created by an AFP forensic artist, it's a stark image – not just for its beauty, but for the way it stirs the imagination, prompting thoughts of what might have been of Gordana’s life between then and now.’

"Gordana had just bought a new black dress the night she went missing – an outfit she intended to wear to an upcoming concert with her beloved cousins.
She never got to wear it. Never got to see her favourite band.
The review of her case, and of two other missing Lake Macquarie girls Robyn Hickie and Amanda Robinson, is likely to take at least six months.
Police and her family have not given up hope that someone out there knows something to provide the breakthrough they need."

It’s possible, dotr. Gordana had complained of being stalked by someone she called The Spook. I don’t know if he is the same person as the named POI in her case, Corey Lovett, but she told her sister she was afraid of The Spook in a phone call about two weeks before she disappeared:

‘During the November 2002 inquest, her sister, Karolina Jagurinoski, told of a phone call she received from her frightened younger sister a fortnight prior to her disappearance.

“Gordana said there was this fellow bothering her at work, hanging around and bugging her and she didn’t like him. She didn’t know him. I think he just saw her at the deli once and got carried away with her.”

Gordana nicknamed the guy “The Spook” and was forced to quit her part-time job out of fear of him. Nobody has been able to pinpoint just who The Spook is.’
She only had to walk 500m home. And nobody has seen her since.

"Detectives investigating the cold case disappearance and suspected murders of three Lake Macquarie teenage girls have released an image of a vehicle similar to the one they believe may be linked to two of the cases.

Robyn Hickie, 18, left her home around 7.15pm on Saturday, April 7, 1979 and was last seen standing at a bus stop on the Pacific Highway, Belmont North.

Amanda Robinson, 14, was last seen a fortnight later on Saturday, April 21, 1979 near a bus stop on Lake Road, Swansea, after attending a dance at her high school in Gateshead.

About 9pm on Thursday, November 24, 1994, Gordana Kotevski, 16, was forced into a vehicle on Powell Street, Charlestown, while walking from Charlestown Square Shopping Centre to her aunt's home on the same road."

"The vehicle is described as a distinct green-coloured, mid-1970s four-door Holden Torana sedan."

Cops’ huge breakthrough in cold case murders

The Daily Telegraphreports police have now dropped their Milat theory and are instead focusing on a 58-year-old businessman from the Hunter region who now lives in the Gold Coast.

The publication reported that during a bail hearing on the Gold Coast last month, NSW Police revealed it had been investigating him over a 1979 cold case murder.

In a press conference this afternoon, NSW Police Detective Chief Inspector Greg Thomas said he hoped photos of the Torana will jog memories in the Lake Macquarie area.

The car is thought to have travelled between the area and Queensland.

“Whether it’s still even on the road we don’t know — but it’s a very specific car,” Det Chief Insp Thomas told reporters in Belmont.

“Going back 40 years to when these disappearances occurred in this area, there could be someone who has knowledge of that vehicle."

It seems things are progressing on this and related cases. Warren John McCorriston is facing multiple charges and it will be interesting to see where this leads on the Kotevski, Hickie and Robinson cases - all of which have been linked to him. Accused Hunter man faces fresh charges after arrest by police linked to Gordana Kotevski cold case Given the span of the offences so far charged (late 70s to late 90s) it will be astonishing if more are not uncovered, especially since he has been working in holiday resorts which provide the ideal territory for predators.

ARREST: Detectives in Queensland after the arrest of Warren McCorriston in January. He not appear in Newcastle Local Court on Wednesday during a brief mention of his matter. Picture: NSW Police.

''Mr McCorriston, a resort manager in Queensland, was extradited to NSW in January after Strike Force Arapaima detectives charged him with 22 historical offences, including six counts of sexual assault, sexual intercourse without consent, inflict actual bodily harm with intent to have sexual intercourse, attempting to choke or strangle, maliciously inflicting grievous bodily harm and indecently assaulting a female aged under the age of 16.

The charges relate to three women, who were allegedly sexually assaulted in Lake Macquarie and Gosford between 1979 and 1997. Two of the women were teenagers.

Investigations into the suspected murders uncovered information relating to the unrelated sexual assault allegations which prompted Mr McCorriston's arrest, police have said.

And the court heard on Wednesday that there was now a fresh charge of abducting a girl under the age of 16.''
''Mr McCorriston is a former Belmont High student who worked at Rundles in Newcastle as a teenager before switching to hospitality and landing jobs at some of Queensland's best-known resorts.
Strike Force Arapaima is continuing its investigations into the suspected murders of the four Lake Macquarie women''

A police operation is underway at Nords Wharf in Lake Macquarie at the site of an old Scout Camp. Detectives attached to Strike Force Arapaima are digging with an excavator, searching for the remains of the missing girls.

It’s believed they will also use radar as part of the search.

The Scout Camp is owned by Diverse Property and is being developed for housing.

Police have taken over the site to carry out their investigation.

The former Camp Kanangra Scout Camp is less than 10 kilometres from where Amanda went missing.

Twins charged with sexual abuse of two boys as police probe into cold case murders of three women | Daily Mail Online
"Twin brothers have been charged with the sexual abuse of two young boys as police probe into the cold case murders of three women in the same area.

One of the brothers was arrested at a home in Seven Hills last Wednesday while the other was arrested at a home in Greenacre in Sydney's southwest on Thursday.

Police will allege the two young boys were sexually abused in the late 1980's and early 1990's by two men, both aged 69, who were known to them.

The alleged abuse came to light following extensive investigations into activity in the east Lake Macquarie area in the NSW Hunter Region almost 40 years ago.

Amazing police try and solve one case and get another. Similar thing happened with the Lisa Brown case in Perth they found another woman who was missing and made charges.
