Police in Western Australia's far north have launched multiple search and rescue efforts this morning after three groups of people were reported missing.

Police are searching for a man in his 40s, a woman in her 20s and a teenaged girl after they failed to return from a boat trip near Kununurra yesterday.

In Kununurra, police are searching for a man in his 40s, a woman in her 20s and a teenaged girl, who failed to return from a boat trip launched from Celebrity Tree Park in the town early on Sunday.

The group were reported missing about 8.10pm yesterday.

Their vehicle and boat trailer remained parked at the popular recreation spot last night, police said.

"The fact they had not returned by nightfall was out of character," a police spokesperson said.

State Emergency volunteers deployed a vessel to search the area last night, but were forced to return to shore, with the search effort to resume this morning.

Six people have been reported missing in three separate incidents in Australia’s northwest, with search efforts for two separate groups resuming on Monday.
In one incident, a woman called triple-zero about 6.40pm Sunday to report she and her friend were lost in the Mirima National Park, just outside Kununurra in Western Australia’s Kimberley region.

Police went to search the area but had to turn back due to rising flood waters.

The woman and her friend were found by a rescue helicopter on Monday morning and have been flown to Kununurra for medical assessment.

In another incident, police were alerted about 8.10pm on Sunday that a boat of three people – a man aged in his 40s, a woman in her 20s and a teenage girl – were overdue for returning after setting out on a boat from the Celebrity Tree Park area of Kununurra earlier in the day.

A police search found their vehicle and boat trailer still in the Celebrity Tree Park area.

A Department of Fire and Emergency Services boat searched for the trio, but the search was postponed until Monday morning.

In the third incident, police received a triple-zero call about 4.15pm on Sunday after a 20-year-old man went missing while swimming in the Fitzroy River near Fitzroy Crossing.

It’s understood he was with two other people when they went swimming in the river near the Fitzroy River Lodge about 3.30pm, with the man going missing shortly after.

Meanwhile in Kununurra, a man in his 40s, woman in her 20s and a 15-year-old girl were found after being reported missing last night.

Friends of the group raised the alarm after they failed to return from their trip up the Ord River, having launched from Celebrity Tree Park in Kununurra on Sunday morning.

But police said the Kununurra residents were found safe floating downstream near Herbie's Hideaway, a waterfall on the Upper Ord, having run out of fuel.

"We had a chopper up near Herbie's, which managed to land nearby," Kununurra police officer Neil Vanderplank said.

"One of my officers has got across and had a yarn with the skipper, and had a quick check of their welfare.”
