Wow. His poor, poor kid. The little boy has to endure years of a custody battle and now he has no parents left. I can only imagine the horror of that.

I guess De Kraai saw his best friend, like a little sister, cut in half a few years ago. Tried to save her and could not. Friends say he totally changed after that. He must have had PTSD.

But people know if they are thinking about planning a murder. And this was obviously planned - he had to drive to the salon after loading his guns and bullets. His responsibility, if he felt insane, was to call 911 and have himself committed - not leave his dear son with no parents and 7 other families with nothing. I'll never get the mass shooting thing. I'll never get the murder thing, for that matter.

If he had multiple weapons and wore body armor it was premeditated. I cannot understand why he shot everyone (not that I can understand him shooing anyone). I wonder if he also had a beef with his ex-wife's co-workers and employer.

I have contacted all my friends in seal beach nd have not heard from any of them. This is a very tight knit community and they are probably banding together in a major way.
They are saying this is the worst mass shooting in Orange County history.

Oh my gosh. my friends know many of the dead, as well as the shooter. They are all in shock. To use their words it is surreal and their lives have come to a complete halt.
They are helping each other and the families as much as possible-but this is going to be a long road for all.

I went to high school with Michelle. She was in the class ahead of mine. I haven't thought about her in years, but last I had heard, she had married the boy she was with during high school. They were always such a cute couple (btw, he was not the person who murdered her, she must have divorced and remarried). I heard just a bit of the broadcast. had to go to court. I heard about the man shot in his car outside the salon. He was probably going to eat at his favorite place. His friends called and wrote in and talked about how he was an incredible person, that no amount of adjectives could suffice to describe this man who would put himself in harms way just to help another.

We hear about the wonderful people so often in these kinds of cases. It's seems it's always the best that get gunned down or otherwise senselessly murdered. Why can't some of these mass murderers go after pedophiles or something instead of innocent, darling people? I guess that's kind of a stupid thing to say, I man they shouldn't be killing anyone, but why is it always such nice people who get massacred?

In any event, i wish I could have heard the rest of the broadcast.

Yes, I posted it a few posts back. I have a client right now who has serious PTSD. War vet. He is not doing well. Toughest guy around (ex Navy SEAL) but he couldn't stop crying today in the hall. Just floating in a see of unreality half the time. (And we are winning BIG in his case, BTW, which he barely seems to grasp).

But he knows when he starts to feel crazy and does something about it. I mean, the PTSD does explain a lot with the shooter. His friends say he became unrecognizable, like a ghost of himself. It is important and needs to be known. But when a person puts on body armor, gathers weaponry and artillery and takes a drive to kill someone, if I don't hear that they are slapping their own excrement on themselves afterwards, like Jared Loughner, then I tend to believe there remians enough sanity to call 911 rather than taking that drive.

But I'm not a psych so what do I know?

Wow. I'm so sorry. It must be horrible for anyone who knows one of the victims. Just being an Orange County resident, this has been weighing so heavily on me. I drove right through Seal Beach today (on my way there and back from court on Long Beach) and I couldn't help but feel such sadness in a place that's always been such a casual, happy, beach city.

People are going in droves to leave flowers at the salon. I heard one poor lady (via radio broadcast) who came and then just fell to her knees, sobbing. You could hear the abject grief and horror. Made me cry myself.

This kind of thing could happen to anyone. No way to protect against it and so, so unfair.

It is unreal. I started looking up online yearbooks, and it brought back the memories. I actually think she was two grades ahead of me, but she was dating my friend's older brother. She was one of those girls that other girls looked up to...pretty, popular, sweet. It's been almost thirty years, but memories are coming back, and I'm pretty sure that she was good friends with my next door neighbor. She was a cheerleader, and always had a bunch of girls hanging out at her house, and I'm almost positive that Michelle was one of them. I felt terrible yesterday when I heard the news, and scared because Seal Beach was so close to where I grew up. Since no one ever went to the beach in Long Beach, we always went to Seal Beach. It was where the bus dropped us off, so it was almost the daily hangout for all of us in junior high school (the beach, and Lakewood Center Mall).

I feel horrible for all of the victim's loved ones and friends. I can't believe that one person can destroy so many lives. He is truly a monster. I don't live in the area anymore, but I wish I could go to one of the memorials.

Mourners placed flowers, candles and other items at a memorial on a sidewalk Thursday outside a Seal Beach salon to remember victims of a gunman who burst into the business Wednesday afternoon and opened fire on customers and employees.
Most people were friends and salon customers and others were family members. Many people looked at the tributes in silence – fighting back tears...

"You could be somewhere, innocently, just getting your hair done or your nails done," said Scott Youngren, who attended a vigil Wednesday night. "Before you know it, it's over."

A service for the victims was conducted late Wednesday at SeaCoast Grace Church in Seal Beach. Kari Salveson, of Los Alamitos, said Fournier made visits to the salon special.
"She could gab away," Salveson said. "She was one of those girlfriends you could never get enough of. She made you smile and she made you laugh."
A note (pictured, right) outside the salon Thursday read, "RIP Michelle & Kristy."

"I'm sorry she's gone," said Lydia Oliver, a former neighbor of Fournier's. "It's very sad. I feel sorry for the boy. He's a good boy."

The salon owner, Randy Fannin, is believed to be among the deceased. The family released a statement late Wednesday: "Our family is struggling to not only make sense of Wednesday's events, but also doing our best to process the overwhelming loss we've all experienced."

These types of threats need to be taken seriously. There is a lot of good information out there regarding red flags for workplace violence, but it's probably impossible to get the word out to all employees. I only wish everyone knew the warning signs and would report it to their employers when they hear threats from other employees or their own family members regarding the workplace. Of course this shooting is only the fault of the ex-husband and I'm not blaming anyone for not reporting this threat. Just wishful thinking about how we in society could prevent these horrible mass murders.

SEAL BEACH — Ron Sesler was working the lunch rush at his steakhouse just blocks from the beach in this seaside town when he heard a rapid `pop, pop, pop' sound that he at first thought was construction noise.

But when a frantic woman burst through the restaurant and into the kitchen, screaming "`They're shooting people, they're shooting people!" he knew it wasn't jackhammers.

Over the next nightmarish minutes, Sesler watched as hairstylists and customers from the next-door Salon Meritage streamed into his restaurant seeking refuge from the rampage. Hysterical stylists still wearing their smocks with hair clips in the pockets and customers halfway through dye jobs and permanents piled inside Patty's Place as Sesler locked the door and his wife frantically dialed 911. Police soon showed up and used the restaurant as a temporary base to interview witnesses.
