Richard DeVecchi, 37, was struck by a car at about 7:15 a.m. on Dec. 17, 1998, in front of Berkeley Warehouse, Inc., a trucking and warehousing company located at 1920 Second St...

DeVecchi said that his brother was killed after a fellow employee told him that there was a prowler near the bed of his pickup truck and he went outside to Second Street. He was then struck by an early 1980s white or tan Cadillac with a dark vinyl roof...

Four witnesses who saw his brother get hit said the suspect had been driving slowly but then accelerated, hit his brother and kept going, said Randy DeVecchi.

Randy says, "peace and closure is literally all that we're looking for."

A $50,000 reward has been offered in the case.

DeVecchi said his brother was kept alive on a ventilator for several days but was declared brain dead on Dec. 21, 1998. The next day, his organs and tissues were donated.

DeVecchi said his brother, survived by a wife and two stepchildren, was buried on Christmas Eve.

DeVecchi's family is offering a $50,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the driver. Police describe him as a black male about 5 feet 11 inches tall and 185 pounds, with short black hair.

''Rick Devecchi, 37, was hit outside his family's trucking business at University Avenue and 2nd Street.
He was rushed to the hospital, where he died several days later.
The driver has never been found, and it's now a cold case.
On Sunday, his brother, Randy Devecchi, said he just wants some closure for his parents.
"The only thing I'm hoping for is to give my parents some peace," he said. "I know it's been a burden on their shoulders for a long time."

''The driver of a 1974 Cadillac Coupe de Ville hit Richard DeVecchi, 37, at about 7:15 a.m. on Dec. 17, 1998 on the 1900 block of Second Street. The driver, described as a black man, 5 feet 11 inches tall and weighing 185 pounds, with black hair, apparently had been tampering with the rear door of DeVecchi's pickup, police said.
DeVecchi was crossing the street to investigate when the man got into the Cadillac and plowed into him, police said.
The Cadillac was white or cream in color with a dark vinyl top. The car may be missing its left front hubcap and may have windshield damage. It had a white license plate with blue letters that included "CUS."
