Ontario Provincial Police are investigating after the remains of a little girl were found in the Grand River in Dunnville, Ont.

Police say officers were called to an address in Dunnville on Tuesday afternoon after human remains were found in the waters of the river.

Police say the remains belonged to a little girl, whose body had been in the water for some time.

They estimate she was between one and four years old when she died.

A post-mortem examination has been scheduled for Thursday to determine the cause of death.

Police have created dedicated tip line for the investigation, and those with information are asked to call 1-844-677-9403.

This is so unusual. Two little deceased girls found in Ontario recently with no immediate matches? What’s going on?

ETA: This little girl was found approximately a one hour and forty minute drive from the remains of the first little girl.

The Grand River is nearly 200 miles long. It flows south into Lake Erie. Earlier in the year, a flood warning went out due to spring melt and run off. It affected areas near Brantford and much further north around Elora Gorge.

''An autopsy will be conducted at the Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service in Toronto on May 19, and Gagliardi said more information would be available at that time.''

''Haldimand OPP's crime unit is investigating the death, with the assistance of OPP Forensic Identification Services and in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner for Ontario.

A special tip line has been created to assist this investigation. Police are encouraging anyone with information to call 1-844-677-9403.

Should you wish to remain anonymous, you may call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or leave an anonymous online message at www.helpsolvecrime.com where you may be eligible to receive a cash reward of up to $2,000.

More to follow.''

BBM exactly what I was about to post. Where are the families, where are their mothers? Is it not strange that no family seem to have come forward in these two stories? It's either things like this or reports of missing children without any trace. Upsetting.

An OPP boat searches the Grand River in Dunnville, Ont. after the remains of a young girl were found. (May 18, 2022)

"I just can't imagine that someone would do that to a baby... a baby," said Chris Aldridge, who lives in Dunnville.
"It's very, very sad," said another resident, Kathy Gilbert. "I can't believe it. Something like this would happen in this town. It's just a sad day."
Police said they are looking into missing person reports from across Canada and the United States as part of their efforts to identify the girl.
Authorities have also set up a special tip line for anyone who may have information that can help in their investigation.
Residents are asked to call 1-844-677-9403, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
"We're hopeful that members of the public will assist us," said Glassford. "I think this is one of those cases that we're really going to depend on the public to help us identify this child and determine what happened and how this child ended up in the river and the circumstances surrounding that."

The community of Dunnville is located near the mouth of the Grand River in Haldimand County. There are a number of boat launches along the waterfront and wind turbines lining the shore.

Maybe this child was reported missing several months ago. After exhausting that lead, I would be looking for abductions by non-custodial parents in Canada and the US. Going back 6 months first, then a year. If that doesn't pan out, then the most likely reason this child wasn't reported missing is the people who were her caregivers put her in the river, IMO.

Elementary schools in the general area, including New York State should be contacted to see if any female children under the age of 10 have stopped coming to school especially if other siblings still attend. The old 'she went to live with her grandma' should ring alarm bells especially if there is no effort to transfer her records to another school.

A kindergarten teacher made the link between one of her students and partial unidentified remains of a young child in 1999 in Toronto.

The child’s stepmother had told the teacher the child and family were returning to Pakistan. But the truth was her husband, Farah’s father, had murdered her, and the stepmother was an accomplice.

She was the bright, lovely, five year old Farah Khan.

It was a brutal crime that I don’t recommend reading about.

Initially they only knew her approximate age and that she was South Asian. They had fingerprints and DNA only to work with. So it took a tip from someone who noticed her absence.

I remember that case, it was horrific.

''Ontario Provincial Police provided an update on the case Friday, asking anyone “who may know of a family with a little girl, between the approximate ages of 10 ½ months and two ½ years old, who may have left town suddenly or moved away under circumstances that could now be considered suspicious.”

''The new request comes following an autopsy on the body conducted Thursday. Police added that “additional testing” is scheduled.''

Police said they are following up on tips they have received through a designated tip line from across the country and the United States.

They are asking anyone with information to call the tip line at 1-844-677-9403 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).''

The Haldimand County OPP Crime Unit is investigating the death, under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, with the assistance of OPP Forensic Identification Services and in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner for Ontario.

Further updates will be provided when available, police say.

Meanwhile, a candlelight vigil in honor of the little girl is being held Monday night from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. in the parking lot beside the bridge on Dunnville Road. The vigil is also in support of the fire, police and paramedics who went through the tragedy.

For more information visit Candlelight vigil .

Studies are currently being done to determine the length of time in the water.

Investigators say there is still work to be done, “it’s going to take the community to identify her. To give her her name back. Right now she’s just an unknown, unidentified little girl lying in the morgue. We need to identify her,” OPP Detective Inspector Shawn Glassford said.

Assuming at this point that LE do not know (Or for some reason, have not released that info.) concerning this child's race, but assume they tested her with the other female child who was found in a Rosedale dumpster, to see if they are related to one another, imo speculation.

Is it possible that this was some kind of domestic situation? Could explain why no mother/parents have come forward yet.

Somewhere along the way, someone must notice. Between 10 1/2 months and 2 1/2 years, people notice new mothers and small children. Traveling with small children isn't simple either. Was someone visiting the water or was this later on in the dark, in a more sinister way? Poor baby.

''Topolinski says a lot of the EMS first responders were upset the child was named Baby Doe, so out of respect, first responders have named her Anahita, meaning a river and water goddess. Graceful and pure without fault.

The vigil was held in the parking lot by the Dunnville Bridge at 8:30 p.m. on Monday.

Officers still haven’t been able to identify her and are asking the public for help. If you know anything you can call the Dunnville Body Investigation tip line at 1-844-677-9403.''
