"I’d just let her talk, just get whatever she needed out of it,” said Chris, who didn’t want his last name used. He last saw Freeland on Jan. 16, when he and his mother shared a pancake breakfast with her."

In a statement, the agency says what happened to Freeland is “a tragic story and for the moment, a complete mystery.”

This Friday afternoon, the Alex Youth Health Centre in Calgary is holding a memorial for Freeland.

She leaves behind friends and family, as well as the son she gave up for adoption as a teenager.

Freeland bought him a Christmas present this year, Chris said.

She never mailed it. She couldn’t afford the postage.

I wonder if this movie was inspiration for KF's working name of Chloe...

To start, he sets it in his home town of Toronto, which effectively becomes another character. Landmarks from Yorkville to Queen Street emphasize the city as a place of urbane privilege, with frequent angular shots of glass structures adding an undertone of menace. Egoyan also taps into one of his most typical concerns – the torturous ways people seek to connect with each other.

Chloe begins with a voiceover by the title character, a young call girl preparing for a date. “I’ve always been good with words,” says Chloe (Amanda Seyfried). She goes on to list some of the techniques she uses to satisfy her male clients’ erotic fantasies.

Actually, I thought about this featured article from Toronto Life which describes an escort named Chloe. I reread the article and the escort is in her 30s. I have a feeling that name is more common in the sex trade. I have to wonder as well, if disputes occur amoungst escorts with similar names?

Disputes might be possible, especially with a new and very pretty kid-on-the-block...

"Some of the kids have a lot of bravado, but you know it’s talk,” she said. “She talked about the physical fights she got into. Some instances she got the crap beat out of her.”

"Although Freeland was known for getting into fights, McDonald said she was never aggressive with shelter staff"

“She called her roommate earlier that night and told her she was having a bad date,” said Tim Lambrinos, of the Adult Entertainment Association of

Canada. “She said ‘she was going to leave the date’ and was returning home.”

That was the last time her roomie heard from Freeland until finding out of her death the next day
<bbm>

I don't know if they mean another roommate other than JD (who merely said that Kera was coming to her place the next day, but no mention of a "bad date"). Maybe the above excerpt is not properly worded ... it indicates the roommate heard from Kera one day, and the next day heard of her death. That would mean Kera was alive on March 16th??

We have TL, the head of the Adult Entertainment Association of Canada, speaking out wrt Kera's death. At $400/hr or $4,000/day, she was probably in high demand by some wealthy clients. Dollars to donuts her take-home pay was a small percentage. And yes, I would think pregnancy would be a big no-no in the biz.

Freeland had lots of boyfriends, most of whom were abusive, Cooper said. The two would meet up to catch a movie, hang out at the mall or have their nails done, and Freeland would have dark bruises on her arms and legs.

"She never really talked about it," said Cooper. "We didn't discuss things that would make us sad. Just about fun stuff. You know, being girls. Doing what (girls) do."

But when Freeland turned 19, she learned a dark secret about her friend. Freeland had been working as an escort in Calgary for a year.

Just some interesting background re Cachet Ladies and its VIP connections:

April 15, 2010
http://www.thestar.com/printarticle/795598

Gillani, said he had an "equity position" in Cachet Ladies, an escort firm in Toronto. (Cachet Ladies is the firm where Jasmine, Gillani's girlfriend of the past year, works as an escort.)

In his testimony under oath a week or so later in April 2010, Gillani advises a parliamentary committee that he did not know the owners of Cachet Ladies, and denied any relationship with the HA (although he supposedly has bragged to others about being a banker for the Vancouver HA):

from: http://m.theglobeandmail.com/news/p...of-jaffer-tale/article1548392/?service=mobile

4:23 : JT: Nadeau -- did you know about cachet Ladies? do you know owners of that agency? and what about issue of fraud in BC?

Jill Mahoney: Gillani: No, I don't know the owners of the escort agency.
......

4:24 [Comment From Mimi Wlliams: ] He seemed honest and forthwright until asked about Cachet Ladies.

4:25 : JT: Nadeau: so you've told us issues before the courts with your business -- are you a banker to Hell's Angels? have you ever had any relationship with Hel's Angels?

4:25 Jill Mahoney: Gillani: I thought I addressed that in my opening statement. I have never said that. No relationship.

It's a dangerous business and there's only so much protection an (escort) agency can offer," said Gauthier, a member of the special victims unit.

"And at the end of the day, they are still exploiting her, even if the escort doesn't see it that way," he said Thursday.

I am wondering how many other "high-risk lifestyle" cases there are in Ontario right now?

This girl is dead:

London, Ont., police confirmed a body found on the banks of the Thames River near Chatham, Ont., on March 16 was that of Therssa Wilson, 30.

According to police, Wilson, who also went by the names Therssa Jamieson, Therssa Fleming, Ava or Mindy, lived a "high-risk lifestyle."

This girl is missing:

The former Halifax native was in a group home briefly at age 14, eventually dropping out of high school and moving to the Hamilton area with a former boyfriend.

She started working in strip clubs, but Carter said three years ago Shana Carter had a son and was turning her life around, "getting away from that lifestyle and getting settled, you know, just being a mom," said Carter.

"She had talked about going back to school and finishing her high school, getting a GED and all that. She had been making plans for a better future."

Sgt. Dan Nadeau with Niagara Regional Police said they're investigating Shana's disappearance from Grimsby as a missing persons case.

Does anyone know if Kera (or the other women I mentioned in my post above) posted on Craig's List or Kijiji for their services?

Police don't buy escort agency's assurance

Toronto Police aren’t buying a statement by an escort agency that it can protect the women who work for them — a claim made shortly after one of its escorts was found dead.

Det. Paul Gauthier was responding to a release from Cachet Ladies that it looks out for its women, and even encourages them to further their education. “It’s a dangerous business, and there’s only so much protection an (escort) agency can offer,” said Gauthier, a member of the special victims unit.

“And at the end of the day, they are still exploiting her, even if the escort doesn’t see it that way,” he said Thursday.

Prostitutes have rotten lives that end badly and early. If it isn’t the bruising and bleeding, the drugs and despair and the unwashed clients with their grotesque tastes, it’s the cold nights on Jarvis and the latest news — the beautiful young escort whose corpse was found in a Caledon ditch this week.

How did I know that the article would go like that?

I just cannot appreciate her writing very much.

So harsh.

Lack of Decomposition:

Because her body had been under snow for what's believed to be several weeks, decomposition was not advanced.

“Obviously, we have a timeline from when she was reported missing,” Ontario Provincial Police Constable Peter Leon said. “She is part of a very high-risk occupation, and our chief concern is to find out how and why she came to be in that ditch.”

After examining several suspicious deaths, particularly that of 42-year-old Sonia Varaschin, killed in nearby Orangeville last summer, “there's no reason to link any of these occurrences,” Constable Leon said.
