DEC 23, 2022

It’s been just over two years since Mackenzie Trottier went missing.

“You're supposed to be in a festive mood, but we don't feel very festive at this time,” said her father Paul Trottier.

His daughter was last seen on Dec. 21, 2020.

“The 21st is one of those days that comes, and we experience that for a couple of weeks before, a couple of weeks after, right through the Christmas season. So at times it doesn't feel like Christmas.”

''Gina Trottier held a supporter's hand tightly, tears welling in her eyes, as Paul Trottier talked about their missing daughter Mackenzie.

"We miss her and we've been waiting 1,215 days to hear her voice again," Paul said during a news conference put on by the Saskatoon Police Service Friday.

Police say they will search a specific part of the Saskatoon landfill as part of the investigation into the 2020 disappearance of Mackenzie Lee Trottier.
"On one hand we would like to find nothing and then we'll continue looking," Deputy Chief Cameron McBride said. "On the other hand, we may find her and then we'll proceed down the next course of the investigation.''

''For more than three years, her father Paul has said he believes she is alive and was taken.''
“Over the course of the investigation, there were several devices that were seized and extraction of information from those devices has led us to the point where we are confident in the location that we’re searching, and confident enough that we can not leave this investigative lead undone,” McBride said.
The area is about 930 cubic metres in size and one metre deep, police said, and SPS will be assisted by dogs from RCMP E Division and Calgary Police Service. The teams will also be consulting with University of Saskatchewan forensic anthropologist Dr. Ernie Walker.''
