CANADA Canada - Mary Ann Plett, 29, Edmonton AB, Sept 15 1971

So, from 1973 - 1981 we have the TransCanada Highway Murders of which a few were either contemplated or put on the HOT list.

Probing the mystery of Edmonton’s killing fields
Aug 5, 2017
"Homicide count for females in Edmonton
We identified 49 such cases since 1986. Our collection is in no way representative of the larger number of female homicides in Edmonton during the same period, and we may have overlooked relevant cases. Nonetheless, these 49 cases shared striking characteristics."

And Edmonton is the direct route to Prince George and the Highway of Tears. Highway 16 seems to have kicked off in around 1989 and about the same time that the Killing Fields of Edmonton kicked off. It would seem as if these three areas are directly connected and if that is so then we know that he is at least in his late 60's and would have been in his early 20's at the time of Mary Ann's abduction and death. There are too many connections and too many similarities to not believe that this is the same man. Most likely he was born and raised in Edmonton and sometime between 1971 - 1973 he moved which accommodated the travel between BC and Alberta along the southern route and then between 1981 and 1986 he moved back to the Edmonton area where he's been ever since.
Makes sense.
A thought- perp attended a university or other training school in BC after graduation, then returned to Edmonton? Confidant on the phone ... actor, salesperson?speculation.

Also someone here correctly connected the baby sitter Kelly Cook. That’s him too. .

I'm thinking that he lived in B.C. over this period of time and was driving back and forth for business. A con man who most likely was attempting to run his own business and we all know how that would go with his mind on hunting women. Probably not overly successful and full of sh!!... MOO

I'm running with Alberta, B.C. and less travelled Saskatchewan. That seems like enough territory to cover with numerous connections and Kelly Cook is on the TransCanada Highway murders list in which a few of those names have been connected to the Highway of Tears list. So, back we go to the comfort zone and that comfort zone would seem to be Edmonton for all intense purposes, a place where he can hide and a place where hiding isn't really that difficult. Now, keeping this in mind we need to ask ourselves one question and that is, did we hear his voice on the Amber Tuccaro cell phone recording? Because that voice is the voice of a well seasoned con man with more than a few years of conning women out of there lives and IMO all of those years of sliding down the highway has turned him into a fat slob. It's the dynamics of sitting on your *advertiser censored** all your life behind the wheel and living a slovenly lifestyle that goes with slovenly behavior. And this brings us to a distinct possibility that we are looking for an older fat slob who resides in Edmonton.

To be very clear, Mary Ann Plett picked up a client at a mall in Edmonton with the intention of showing him a property in Looma, southeast of Edmonton. The property in Looma was searched thoroughly, including draining a large body of water.

However, her remains were found by chance months later, far from where she was headed on her final day, northwest of Edmonton, near Fort Assiniboine.

Her killer was reported to have made multiple phone calls to her, requesting viewings of rural properties. Another female realtor was later revealed to have received phone calls from a man who used a similar pseudonym, requesting viewings. She declined.

This seems to indicate persistent stalking-type behavior. I can think of another murder preceded by multiple phone calls to two females, in southern Alberta. In that case, one lived by turning down the man's request, and one did not.

A man with the initials J.C. called Mary Ann Plett. A large body of water was searched for Mary Ann Plett, but she was not found there. Mary Ann Plett's last client claimed to work for a pumping company.

A man with the initials J.C. called Kelly Cook. Kelly Cook was found in a large body of water. Kelly Cook's killer had some kind of logo on his jacket. Strathmore, near Kelly's home town of Standard, has offices for the Western Irrigation District. Irrigation canals run through this area.

"James Cooper" called Mary Ann Plett. Soon after she disappeared, "Dave Cooper" called another female realtor in Edmonton for a viewing of a rural property near Edmonton.

Son would try to honour father's wishes and forgive mom's unknown killer, 41 years later | Edmonton Sun

A decade later, A girl in Standard, Alberta and Kelly Cook got a call from a "Bill Christensen".

These were three very common given names for men at the time. The three surnames begin with "C".

The search for Mary Ann took investigators to water. Kelly Cook was found in an irrigation reservoir.

Another thought about Mary Ann's killer being from Edmonton & area. He picked a real estate agency on Whyte Avenue. Mary Ann picked him up at the Bonnie Doon Shopping Centre on Whyte Avenue. Her car was found at a Don Wheaton Chev dealership on Whyte Avenue, across the street from the former Inn on Whyte hotel, which had a busy bar with live music in those days. This area has and had a lot of low-rise walk-up apartments. Just down the street and around the corner on 104 St. was a Greyhound Bus pickup and drop-off location. Whyte Avenue has a direct city bus route to Bonnie Doon mall, a short bus ride away. Mary Ann's killer could have plotted this whole thing from across the street. I assume the guest registry at the hotel was checked, and questions were asked at the bar.

Mary Ann's married name, Plett, is a Mennonite name. Tofield and Lindstone were settled by Russian Mennonite immigrants in the early 20th century. Was the property for sale in Looma owned by members of that faith community? Did Mary Ann feel comfortable picking up a male client to tour a rural property because it was owned by people of faith and felt safe, or were those just vastly different, trusting times? Mary Ann was described as "deeply religious", although I don't know her religion.

Was anything ever disclosed about the property owners?

FYI, there is a Mennonite Heritage Farm about 10 minutes away from Looma.

Unsure which cases will be discussed, hope this is one of them.

Alberta RCMP link four historical homicides to deceased serial killer

''Police didn’t release any details of who the killer is, or the victims of the four homicides on Thursday. However, police will be holding a media availability at Alberta RCMP K Division Headquarters on Friday at 11:30 a.m. with a 10 a.m. briefing to give more details involving these historical homicide cases.''

Quid pro quo pleasestandby... and only because coincidences don't happen at that rate of influence whereby literal translation is concerned, specifically to one murder.

James Fenimore Cooper... Sept. 15, 1789 - Sept. 14, 1851... Satanstoe 1845 novel first in a there novel cycle followed by The Chainbearer and The Redskins.

Lone Pine, California... 3 hours north of Hollywood. Many western movies filmed there back in the day. Goose Lake... often referred to as Lone Pine due to the location of it's former post office at the Lone Pine store.

Smoking gun of Hollywood... Aleister Crowley... 1875 - 1947 sex cult L.A. OTO - Ordo Templi Orientis. Sadomasochistic sex rituals with men and women. Hard drug use of heroin, cocaine and on and on. Belief in raising powerful demonic spirits and spells. Didn't this crazy s.o.b. just have it all? There's a transplant from L.A. to the Edmonton area that brought it all with him. And more than likely it's multiplied and made many more of crazy just like Crowley. From the home town of Hollywood to the Wild West of Alberta and it seems he brought all of that s*** with him in his head and laid it all out real nice and fine using the creative mind of James Cooper. It's my best guess that we're looking at a firm location within walking distance of the Bonnie Doon Shopping Centre and it's also my best guess that the location will still be in ownership of an heir to the crazy who called himself James Cooper.

Here's a few other references to Sept. 15
Melissa Rehorek, Calgary last seen Sept. 15, 1976 when she left the YMCA alone. Body found Sept. 16 23 km west of Calgary. And does she have some links from Barbara Jean Maclean all the way to the HOT, of course unofficially.
Terry Blanchette and Hailey Dunbar-Blanchette, Sept. 14 - Sept. 15, 2015 Crowsnest Pass. Blairmore. Hailey's body was found on September 15th.

Think pleasestandby, think... because if I can get it to the gate then you should be able to drive it home.
New development! Re. Barbara Maclean & Melissa Rehorek: DNA evidence links 4 Calgary murders from 1970s to dead serial killer

Thanks for the thread info too! It is too bad this evil murderer was not brought to justice in their cases! My condolences to the families of these poor girls as they find out the identity of their daughters murderer. I just read that he died in prison for another rape conviction, so I am glad he was not free, but put away for life when he himself died!

Srery didn’t arrive in Canada until fleeing charges in California in 1974 so he’s probably not any sort of suspect in this 1971 murder.

_________

What a weird case. The official story seems ‘off’ somehow. That a SK would get a real estate agent to an isolated location alone … and then not kill her, and then do the same thing again is weird. The extent to which everything was found 180 degrees the opposite direction is weird especially since we know both the killer and murder victim had both been to the suspected crime scene before. The extent to which the husband seems over-involved is weird although I don’t see how he could have done it. The second set of phone calls is weird.

I feel like something isn’t quite what it seems here but can’t quite figure out what.

Srery is confirmed to have been the murderer of the four young women mentioned in this thread. Which 1971 are you referring to then

This is the thread for Mary Ann Plett who was murdered in 1971.

The news of Srery’s arrest was posted here I’m assuming to note him as a potential suspect for this crime but the indications are that he was not in Canada until 1974.

Thanks, that is correct- i posted about the SK before the names of the victims were announced, Mary P was not on that list as it turns out, but happy that her case received a 'bump'.
Maybe next time Ms Plett's killer will be discovered!
