Older post with some details I thought might be worth repeating...

"Pritchard wouldn't be specific about the suspect, if the profile suggests he will strike again or has struck in the past.

But he said there were no similar incidents on record with the RCMP-maintained Violent Crime Linkage System (ViCLAS)."

"He killed somebody who we would consider a very low-risk victim and engaged in some very high-risk behaviours, entering a home, killing the resident, removing her body in the close confines of a townhouse complex, driving down the highway in her car, disposing of her body, and once again driving down the highway in her car again, returning almost to the scene of the murder, this time with blood clearly visible on the outside of the car to anybody who saw it," he said.

bbm

Yet in spite of all these crime scenes, nothing to point to anyone.

The info about Shelley's attack not being connected to Sonia's is new to all of us, and was only reported a few days ago. I'm sorry that I made a connection between the two cases since they are geographically very near each other. The cases were reported on together in MSM as well. I can start a new thread for Shelley later if no one else does.

Considering the rash of unusual attacks on women living in small town Ontario, it seems natural for information (and discussion) to entwine. The victims not only shared locale, but are often mentioned together in news articles. Although these cases may not be connected, the potential perps (posted composites ect,) remain the same,or at least until we learn otherwise...

Thank you Salem for the new thread.

(this is a repost) Original post was moved to Shelley's, but belongs here in Sonia's thread :)

There is something I have been pondering about for a long time.....I've been wondering if the perp(s) owned a car or not:

( 1 ) On foot -- No car:

Did he live in Orangeville, and left Sonia's car behind Greenhawks, and then left on foot? If that was the case, he would have left a trail of scent for the K-9 units to follow. Is that what happened? Is that what led LE to check:
Last Saturday, an OPP forensics van was parked for most of the day outside a Broadway apartment building in downtown Orangeville, just a five-minute drive from the semi-secluded townhome by a ravine where Varaschin lived alone.

The downtown Orangeville apartment building is less than five minutes by car from the downtown parkette where Varaschin’s blood-spattered white Toyota Corolla was found on Aug. 30 with its trunk and doors open. [please don't get distracted with this last phrase; from what we learned later, seems that was not the case, but that is not the focus of my post at the moment]

The apartment building is also just a five-minute drive from the country home near Mono off Hwy. 10 where professional photographer Shelley Loder was attacked last week.

.........

If perp(s) used his own car:
( 2 ) Did he drive Sonia's body in her car to where he dumped her body, and then drove back to Orangeville and left her car at GH? Did LE find traces of soil/gravel/etc. from that Caledon area in Sonia's wheels ? OR

( 3 )
(and this is the theory I had been pondering about) Did the perp(s) park his car behind GH, walked to Sonia's townhouse, drove her car with her body to the GH location, then moved her body into his car, and drove to the Caledon location in his car ????????????????????????

Unless LE found evidence that Sonia's car was in fact the one used to get to where her body was dumped, then IMO, this theory will make a bit more sense.

This could explain why her car was found parked behind the GH, and will also tell us the perp(s) was not taking unnecessary risks by driving her bloody car back to town, and then walk around in bloody clothes.

This could also add the possibility that the perp(s) is not from Orangeville...after dumping her body, he could have taken off in his own car and drove north, south, east or west. All just my own opinion. Hope I explained it clearly enough :/

Arrest made in Orillia sex assault

http://www.thebarrieexaminer.com/ArticleDisplay.aspx?e=3391909

Orillia OPP have made an arrest in regards to a sexual assault which occurred at the rear of the Metro grocery store on Front Street in the early morning hours of Aug. 27.

Lucas Thibodeau, 24, of Orillia, has been charged with aggravated sexual assault, robbery with violence and overcoming resistance to commit an indictable offence.

Police could not say if the victim and the man now accused of the crime knew one another.

The suspect could be facing life in prison if convicted of aggravated sexual assault.

"Thibodeau's Facebook page indicates he attended Park Street Collegiate Insistitute in Orillia and had recently started a job at Polyethics Industries, a local manufacturer.

Due to a court-imposed publication ban, no further information can be released.

"We hope 2012 is the year we’re able to publish front page stories about the arrest of whomever killed Orangeville’s Sonia Varaschin in August of 2010, and the perpetrator of the vicious attack on Shelley Loder of Mono four months later.
This community hasn’t been the same since — although time has certainly allowed the level of anxiety to lessen — and probably wouldn’t return to the way it was even if arrests are made.
Convictions, of course, would be even better to see."

"But in seven cases of bodies found in the last four years, only two remain unsolved.

“We’re talking about the type of criminal who isn’t well experienced,” Urbszat said.

Varaschin’s killer was never located, after she was believed to have been abducted from her Orangeville townhouse, minutes from the Caledon border. Her white Toyota Corolla was found abandoned with blood inside. Her file remains under investigation by OPP.

Toronto escort Kera Freeland’s body was discovered in a roadside ditch in Caledon in March 2011 after going missing a month earlier. No one has been arrested in the ongoing investigation still deemed “suspicious” by police".

Sonia's case has me so angry again. There are three crime scenes. There were many neighbors in close proximity to the crime. It was a warm summer evening. Her body was recovered fairly quickly after she was killed and dumped. The crime lab has DNA. Since there are no hits to a databank, this person has either never been involved in a major crime or has never been caught. People need to start talking and remembering. It was Sunday night/Monday morning. Someone knew where to dump her body. Someone needed to get that vehicle back into town, downtown Orangeville. WHY? The WHITE car had blood on the outside! This person could have walked to another vehicle. Who would park nearby? Is there a public parking? The perp could have also walked home, taken a cab somewhere, gone to a friend's house. I hope LE has requested video from businesses that have cameras to tighten their timeline as to when the vehicle returned to downtown Orangeville.

"Ma, owner of HomeLife Landmark Realty in Markham, was talking to the Star about whether the curse of hongza (literally, unlucky house) that pervades Hong Kong has shown up here, too.

“Yes, it is a concern,” said Ma, who was born in China. “Of course in Ontario, there is no definition for ‘haunted house.’ ”

"A 30-year-old Bolton man last year put a down payment on an Orangeville house he later realized had been owned by murdered nurse Sonia Varaschin. He got his deposit back.

Real estate agents in Ontario are required to disclose “any material fact about a property or its history they are aware of that could affect a person’s decision to buy, “ the Real Estate Council of Ontario specifies.

Whether that includes death and murder is a grey area."

"TORONTO - Sonia Varaschin “loved to dance,” friend Marija Boijic said Wednesday.

And when she wasn’t treading the boards with a partner in time to fast-paced Salsa rhythms, the former Sick Kids nurse loved to watch.

Varaschin, whose 2010 murder in her Orangeville home remains under investigation, would have loved the tribute event in Toronto, which Boijic has organized for Saturday.

“She’d have loved to be there,” her friend said.

Instead, Boijic said people will honour her memory as a dedicated nurse devoted to family, friends and fun."

"One member said to me, “Why should we keep quiet on this topic? Why should we shy away from saying her name, in any place, online or in our own personal circles of family and friends?”
And she’s right ... why should we? We all agree that it’s still quite a sensitive topic to bring up and discuss, but if we all keep quiet and refuse to keep Sonia’s name alive to at least some degree, then who are we, as a community?"

My heart skipped a beat the other day. I walked into a Thrift store and sitting right up on the counter where you cash out was a pair of Dakota work boots in really good condition.

I immediately went to them and checked the size, 7 and 1/2.

However, for any of us that do like to browse these stores, take a couple of minutes and check the shoe/boot area.

This would not have even occurred to me until I saw these boots sitting right up on the counter.

Hi and thanks everyone for your posts. I've been absent for awhile, but plan on getting back into the quest for justice for our ladies SV, SL and AG and many others, but these three are my focus for now.

Human skull found. Police are saying there is no reason to suspect a link between Sonia's case and Kera Freeland. Is there a freak in the area killing women or is this random?

I'm starting to feel ridiculously repetitive, but I have posted the following on several pages here and on UC. There has been earlier discussion (since yesterday) on Mariam M's page here on WS #7. I fear there is indeed a serial predator at work.

Depressing news again -- although hopefully resolution for someone's family. Remains were found in a ravine adjacent to a Toronto golf course -- yesterday, I think. There is some media speculation these may belong to Miriam Makhniashvili. If so, or whomever it is, may she or he now rest in peace.

Lela Tabidze, mother of Mariam Makhniashvili, who mysteriously disappeared in September 2009, said she received a call from Toronto police on Thursday regarding human remains discovered earlier this week.

Police confirmed two youth stumbled upon the remains under a bridge near Highway 401 and Yonge Street on Tuesday. They would not speculate about the gender or age of the deceased.

“It could be something, it could be nothing,” said Tabidze, whose 17-year-old daughter’s disappearance has gripped headlines for the last three years.

Tabidze stressed that police divulged little information, but she’s waiting for news.

“(The call) was just to warn me,” she said.

Police said the remains are being examined by a forensics team and they expect answers regarding the identity soon.
