GUILTY Canada - Taylor Van Diest, 18, beaten to death, Armstrong, BC, 31 Oct 2011

http://www.vernonmorningstar.com/news/136841688.html
Pieper said the city is still trying to recover from the tragedies, particular Van Diest’s homicide.

“I know people are still talking about it, it’s the first thing they think of,” said Pieper. “We all want to get to the bottom of this. I have pretty good confidence in the RCMP that they will break this case. I know they are working hard on all of the tip.

“We’ve changed as a city, changed in that we’re a lot more cautious. If I said everything is getting back to normal, that’s just not true.”

I wonder if LE has received any other letters from the self proclaimed perp since the composite came out and he knows that they have his DNA?

Nov 10th we find out about the letters which state:

The writer of an anonymous letter claims responsibility for 18-year-old Taylor Van Diest’s Halloween night killing and threatens further violence against women of the northern Okanagan community of Armstrong.

Nov 23rd: we find out about the connection between a previous violent attack from 2005. Police now publish that composite.

I hope that the tips are still coming in. Why does it seem like this case has stalled? Someone has got to remember someone with that facial hair and those other features, even if from 2005.

From Matou's above RCMP link.
"Friends, family and associates would have likely observed noticeable changes in his mood on or around Halloween night, which may have included a withdrawal or loss of interest in his usual activities, changes in appetite, changes in sleep patterns, irritability, increased use of alcohol or drugs or changes in personal grooming and hygiene.

Although we believe he is a resident of the Okanagan he may have made an unplanned, sudden or unexplained departure from the area shortly after the murder on Halloween night of this year in Armstrong.

This individual may be financially dependent on others or collecting social assistance.

If you have suspicions of someone you know, but have been reluctant to come forward, please help us by contacting our dedicated tip line at 1-888-688-4264, your local RCMP or police service, or provide your information to Crimestoppers."

Bump: EXACTLY! WTH is going on with this case? Is there a psycho killer running around in the Kelowna area or what? The threatening letter came BEFORE the RCMP issued their composite based on the DNA match. This is disturbing.

Painstaking, low-profile work going on behind the scenes, no doubt.

Are they any closer to finding Taylor's killer?

*Bump*. I really hope we can catch this man and find justice for Taylor. I personally believe we have a case similar to one that happened in my hometown- a young college student on break was kidnapped outside of an apartment complex by a man driving to the Oregon Coast. He saw her from the highway and kidnapped her. Five years later they found her remains, not far from where she was taken.

My point is, I think this could be the work of someone just passing through and saw an opportunity- Taylor walking alone. I believe his motivation was sexual and because she was beaten, lots of anger as well. He could have some familiarity with the area, but isn't considered a resident. Anybody else know what I mean?

Thanks for the feedback ilovegreentrees, a stranger passing through town would be hard to pinpoint and locate. ..

RCMP to give update in the Taylor Van Diest murder case

The 18-year-old was beaten on her way to a Halloween party in November 2011

After months of silence, the RCMP will be giving us an update on the Taylor Van Diest murder case.

I was thinking about Taylor yesterday and wondering what was going on. There are so many unsolved cases but this one has a suspect description and DNA. I hope the police have more information that will lead to his arrest. JMO
