CANADA Canada - Toronto, WhtMale, 25-35, Motorcycle Accident Victim, May'88

Thanks, dotr.

This case is pretty solvable, IMO, despite the passage of time. It just needs increased publicity, and a fresh image of this man. A drawing of what he looked like without the gruesome injuries would help.

It should be relatively easy, as his remains were not decomposed and there isn't much guesswork involved. Also, there was scant info. in the news; this could be expanded upon.

Pic on the left is a composite of an 80's wanted person, long shot.

" Suspect two: White male between the ages of 25 and 30, approximately 5-foot-11 and 160 pounds with a medium build and black, bushy hair. He was clean-shaven with a dark moustache.
Suspect three: White male in his late 20s or early 30s, approximately 5-foot-11 and 180 pounds with dark hair and a moustache".

Interesting that you had picked up this person, dotr.

Plewes' disappearance in and of itself is quite mysterious. Since he was a serving member of the Canadian Forces, one would think it would have been taken even more seriously. I don't think it was connected to this UID, however.

The OPP UID website has updated the profile on this individual. It notes more info on his dentition, the presence of a possible hernia surgery scar. It has also adjusted the age range, indicating he may be younger than estimated.

Anyone find the make & model of the motorcycle???

We could post on owner/enthusiast forums; also perhaps understand more about Mr. Hadju/Hajdu's station in life.

Was the motorcycle stolen, perhaps?

FamilySearch shows a Daniel J. Hajdu/Haydu interred in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Bradford, Ontario in 1988. This Daniel J. was born in 1897 though.

Grandpa rides motorcycles, or maybe Daniel J. the Second was know as Johann?

Not to be disrespectful, but possibly Grandpa driving a motorcycle was a factor in the accident....

A Johann Hadju was issued patents in the early '70's, can't tell where he lived -- but that could tie in to the University of Toronto? Can anyone find a faculty list for 1988?

:seeya:

Accessed full article from 1 June 1988 - the UID is reported to have died 13 May 1988 in hospital, the day following the accident.

He is also reported as heavier in the article at 210 pounds, 5' 8" and that he had a 5" scar on his lower left leg (as opposed to a dark mole on UID sites).

The motorcycle accident occurred on Harbord Street near George Street, Toronto at 4:45 am. They hit a pole - driver died at the scene.

The driver was Johann Hadju.

Bumping Woodland's helpful post, as a reminder of uid's appearance and the name of the bike driver who also died in the crash after the bike hit a pole.
Apparently the driver's family was located, but they do not know who the passenger might be.
imo.
Wondering where they were coming from or going to at 4:45 am?

If Johann Hadju was indeed a Hungarian immigrant, could our UID be an recent immigrant from Hungary? It might explain why no one in Canada is looking for him.

A suggestion.

William Charles Cordes

Missing Since: March 23, 1984 from Auburn, California
Classification: Endangered Missing
Date Of Birth: July 11, 1968
Age: 15 years old
Height and Weight: 5'6 - 5'7, 125 - 135 pounds
Distinguishing Characteristics: Caucasian male. Brown hair, hazel eyes. Cordes has a birthmark on his neck. His nicknames are Bill and Billy. He had stitches in one of his feet at the time of his disappearance.

Details of Disappearance

Cordes initially became missing while residing at a group home, The Children's Home Society, on New Airport Road in Auburn, California. He became a resident in the home as a part of his sentence for robbery. Cordes attended a party in a town near Auburn with friends on March 23, 1984. The boys drank beer until 5:00 or 6:00 a.m. before leaving for home. Their vehicle ran out of gasoline on Interstate 80 near Dry Creek Road. Cordes stayed behind with the car while his companions walked to purchase fuel. His friends discovered that Cordes had disappeared while they were at the gas station. He has never been heard from again.
