Ohhh, I remember this case!

The case received national attention because Wells was dating Shauna Redford, the daughter of actor Robert Redford, at the time of Wells' death. Smika faces a charge of First Degree Murder in Boulder. Police believe Smika may be hiding in California or Mexico.

!3th Street crosses the Platte River there. It looks like at least two bridges only slightly upstream. Somewhat seedy industrial area; I don't think the bike path was there in 1987.

There are are a bunch of Denver murder victims, other victims, and unidentified remains pulled out of the water at that location.
