CT - Kathleen Flynn, 11, murdered, Ponus Ridge, 23 Sep 1986 *arrest in 2019*

This guy (Marc Karun) was caught, tried, convicted, and imprisoned at least twice before being turned loose on society to continue with his ways. How many other victims were there in total? Only one more would be too many.
We had capital punishment and I firmly believe there are crimes that warrant it. Connecticut just keeps electing one terrible governor after another that keep making bad choices for this State in more ways than one. It was Malloy that chose to get rid of the death penalty - allowing the 2 kidnapping, raping, murderers on death row for burning the Petit girls and wife to be spared their life. Too bad these victims weren't spared theirs.

This *** actually was living across the street from me about 5-6 years ago for a brief time. (Shelton) A recent divorcee lived in the family home with her 2 young children and brought this guy in to live with her a few months after her divorce. We live in a nice suburban neighborhood and we all had young children. I found out he was a sex offender for rape/kidnapping and was horrified and livid he was free to possibly strike again. A local police seargent I knew alerted me there was a previous kidnapping/rape that he was never prosecuted for. I knew then we were dealing with a serial rapist at minimum. He tried to be social and my husband told him in no uncertain terms to stay the F away from our house and not to ever go anywhere near our house or family ever. He stayed away from us after that but I never let my guard down. The couple broke up after a few months and the woman moved away. I could not believe she brought that guy in her home with her young children. I wanted to throw up when I saw his face in the news and read about what he did to this poor little girl. It's truly a shame CT does not have the death penalty anymore. Dulos deserves it too.
Absolutely sickening to know this guy was allowed to roam free for any length of time. The justice system failed us.

"STAMFORD — Marc Karun, the former Norwalk man charged nearly two months ago with the 32-year-old death of 11-year-old Kathleen Flynn, appeared at the Stamford courthouse Monday and and pleaded not guilty to the murder charge lodged against him.

Standing next to Karun, 54, his attorney Todd Bussert waived a probable cause hearing that would have made the state prove it has adequate evidence to go to trial.

Many attorneys pass on the hearing because the testimony of anyone who takes the stand will live on in perpetuity even if they are dead, missing or uncooperative at the time the case comes to trial.

The case remains in pre-trial negotiations between the State’s Attorneys Office, Bussert and the judge assigned to the case, in order to determine if the matter can be resolved short of going to trial. No trial date has been set, but it could take years for the case to go to a jury."

Former Norwalk man pleads not guilty in Kathleen Flynn’s cold case homicide

Todd Bussert does not appear to be a court-appointed lawyer. I take this to mean someone is still funding Marc Karun, who doesn’t appear to have had any steady employment in recent years.

I suspect we could learn a lot about how Mr. Karun got away with all of his misdeeds if we could just follow the money.

Warrant: Ligatures found in Kathleen Flynn’s accused killer’s home

STAMFORD — Investigators found sex toys, a stained ligature and an assortment of letters and journals at the Maine home of the former Norwalk man accused of the Kathleen Flynn cold case homicide, according to a recently unsealed search warrant.

Police were hoping to find “trophies” possibly kept by Marc Karun in his isolated Stetson, Maine home that could link him to the 1986 homicide, Lt. Arthur Weisgerber wrote in the warrant.

Police did not find any of Kathleen’s belongings, but located a tan ligature with red/brown stains, a black ligature with a white stripe and an entire bag full of other assorted ligatures, the warrant said. Investigators also found a tool bag filled with more ligatures and various sex toys, as well as an envelope containing Karun’s letters and journals, the warrant said.

Karun was scheduled to appear last week in state Superior Court in Stamford for a pre-trial hearing, but the case was continued to Dec. 13.

NORWALK — The former city man charged in the 1986 homicide of an 11-year-old girl has returned to Connecticut after pleading not guilty to two new gun charges in Maine.

Marc Karun, a 54-year-old felon, entered not guilty pleas after he was unexpectedly hit with a new charge during his appearance last week at the U.S. District Court in Bangor, Maine.

Last month, Karun was transported to Maine to face new federal charges stemming from the 60 weapons and nearly 15,000 rounds of assorted ammunition found at his home in Stetson, Maine, during his arrest in connection with the homicide. Karun is not allowed to own any firearms because of his prior convictions.

The latest charge, possessing a gun with an obliterated serial number, stemmed from allegedly owning a rifle that had its serial number filed away.

How is a dangerous ex-con allowed to purchase any gun?

Capital punishment DOES work. Have you ever heard of an executed criminal committing any more crimes?

But if Connecticut (and other states) has no capital punishment, perhaps they should invest in more institutions for the criminally insane, and adjust their laws to allow for proper mental health treatment, or for classification and permanent incarceration of certain criminals.
Maybe sometimes capital punishment works but it's too risky.
What id you sentence and execute an innocent man?
Life in prison is better :)

How is a dangerous ex-con allowed to purchase any gun?

They are NOT allowed to buy them legally. How do they get them? Theft is probably number one answer with buying stolen guns from a thief being a close second.

This clown was found in possession of a rifle that had its serial number ground off - clear evidence that it was a stolen gun.

DNA Match; Karun faces a life sentence without the possibility of parole if convicted.
In January 1986 — 8 months before Kathleen was killed — Karun was charged with raping a woman at knifepoint in the woods behind what is now Norwalk Community College. He was arrested on charges of 1st degree sexual assault ^ kidnapping. However, the kidnapping charge was nolled & the sexual assault was reduced when the victim did not testify. As a result, Karun served only a few months in prison.
Between 1986 and 1988, Karun was implicated in at least two other rapes, an abduction & an attempted kidnapping, according to an arrest warrant. During one of these incidents in Derby, Karun told a rape victim — a stranger — that “he would either have to marry her or kill her if she became pregnant,” the warrant said. Karun was eventually sentenced to 10 years in prison for his two-year crime spree, & was later entered into the sex offender’s registry for life.
