Joy Behar told Jose Baez that he may have been Casey Anthony’s only friend.
“Whether she had friends or not, she had one great lawyer. He got her acquitted,” Barbara Walters said on Wednesday’s edition of “The View.” Baez smiled broadly.

Baez was there to promote “Presumed Guilty,” his book about the Anthony case. Walters called it “fascinating.”

“Why did Jaycee Dugard wait so long?” Baez asked. “Why did Sean Hornbeck run into that situation? Why did the boys in Sandusky not say anything?”
Walters shot back, “Excuse me. Dugard was held in captivity. This is not the same thing.”
But Baez said, “Not always. She was free to go at times.”

Walters wanted to know why police haven’t pursued charges against George Anthony, who has denied he abused Casey.
“The prosecution went all in when they went against Casey,” Baez said. “There’s is absolutely no way that they will ever prosecute anyone. Because of her behavior and her lies, she is essentially the boy who cried wolf. She’s in that position. I write in the book, is she lying because she was abused or is she lying about the abuse?”

I think many people would vote she is lying about the abuse. Doesn’t that undermine Baez’s book? Could it be that Anthony is the girl who never tells the truth?

Even so, Baez didn’t completely decry the media frenzy .
“There were times that I used the media to our advantage,” Baez said. “And quite frankly if it wasn’t for the media she may not have been acquitted.

A spokeswoman for the Florida Department of Corrections said Friday afternoon: “All our department is going to say is Casey Anthony will be done with probation by September. That’s all I’m going to say. That’s for security purposes.”

Attorney Richard Hornsby, who offered Anthony analysis for WESH-Channel 2, had a more precise answer.

“She was technically released from jail early July 17th, and her first official day of probation would have been July 18th, 2011,” Hornsby said. “As a result, her probation will legally end on July 17th, 2012.”

The reviews may have been scathing, but “Presumed Guilty,” Jose Baez’s look at the Casey Anthony case, will show up on the July 22 edition of the New York Times’ best-seller list.

It comes in at No. 9 on the list for combined print & e-book nonfiction.

But the book is not in the Top 10 on the hardcover nonfiction list. It comes in at No. 24 there. ”Presumed Guilty” evidently has sold a lot of e-book editions.

Baez said that his wife knew there wasn’t anything to the accusations. “She knew me. She knows I had worked very hard to become a lawyer,” Baez said. “She was very secure in our relationship, so that was never an issue.”


In an effort at balance during the Anthony segment, Rivera turned to another guest, prosecutor Anna Sigga Nicolazzi, and asked whether Anthony got away with murder. ”Yes, I think so,” she said. “Viewing it from the outside, she killed her daughter.”

Baez described Jeff Ashton as an unexpected ally in the case because the defense team knew the prosecutor would have trouble controlling himself. “Our goal was to give him enough rope to hang himself,” Baez said.

Baez also criticized Ashton for making tasteless jokes during the trial. “We called him our fourth chair, meaning he was really working for the defense,” Baez said.

"If you want to accuse someone of a crime you have to prove it... And that's why the jury took less than 11 hours. I've heard the criticisms saying - um -they didn't even ask to review any evidence. My response to that is 'what evidence - there is nothing to review! What are they going to look at? A heart sticker? I mean really it was ridiculous.' "

Man to sue Judge Perry, state over free speech zone arrest

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. &#8212;

An Orange County man is threatening to sue Chief Judge Belvin Perry and the state of Florida over free speech zones that were set up during the Casey Anthony trial.

During that time, protestors were allowed to gather only in that zone.

Mark Schmidter handed out pamphlets outside that zone last year and was arrested.

Schmidter was sentenced to 151 days in jail, along with another man who got about the same sentence, for indirect criminal contempt of court.

Perry also said Schmidter and his co-defendant, Julian Heiklen, were tampering with jurors because their flyer message suggested that jurors not find guilt in cases where there is no victim.

Schmidter and his attorney plan to file the lawsuit sometime Tuesday.

Perry's office has not commented on the subject.

GZ: And he said he was gonna try and reach out to the person who referred me to JB, if he has any connections. Taaffe said the people were willing to pay for my defense if I take JB on, and I said—he said that whoever, whether it’s him personally or some party that he’s affiliated with that’s willing to support my defense, they should be willing to support my defense whether I use JB or not.
