The connection between Spota and Burke from Burke's youth is that Spota was the DA of Suffolk County who took on the John Pius murder case that Burke was involved in (and I say "involved" because exactly how he was involved in the case is still questionable. If you look at some of the posts regarding the case, there seems to be conflicting opinions as to what happened.) That's where they both first "met," and Spota liked Burke so much that 20+ years later when they both moved up their respective ladders, Spota recommended Burke to be Chief of Police and his recommendation was granted.

His mother was Jane Conway from Dublin Ireland. His father was never know. Burke was probably his foster Family's name.


He was in care. He was physically and sexually abused. I have a feeling there is something coming down the line with the background to our own Burke but I do not believe they are related.


People left Ireland not knowing how to spell there name in English and there are lots of variants of names in America.

Agree to a large extent! Giving your 'tips' to one person at one entity (like the FBI, a D.A.'s office, etc.) could result in the person receiving the tip to dismiss it or put it on the 'back burner' with dozens of other 'tips'.

The media will put paid professionals (writers, reporters, etc.) on your tip and hold L.E.'s feet to the fire to make sure they give it the respect and follow-thru it deserves.

I didn't go to a lawyer to tip on anyone. I wanted my face to be seen asap after I was betrayed by SCPD. But for the record I tipped to the Feds awhile back as well.

My going into the diner in the wee hours of the morning made it difficult to carry out a kill if one was ordered. I, a NYC detective at the time offered to walk JTG out the door if he wanted me to do so. He refused and said, thanks kid, but I have to see this through myself.

Wow hawk. Thats wild. Those must of been some days to work in law enforcement in NY. did the meeting at teddys have anything to do with burkes take over of william bentvenas gambino rackets? Sure seemed like around that time there were issues between the luccheses and gambinos.

This is an even funnier story, but no so funny then. Early afternoon New Year’s Eve., a week or so after the Lufthansa robbery I went to an old haunt in Jamaica, Queens. While I was there visiting a friend Burke and his entourage came into the place and went to the bar in another room. OMG, the thing flashed across my eyes: Jimmy Burke did the robbery and all his boys were with him.
I asked my friend WTF is he doing here, he is supposed to be in jail. My friend said he was in a half-way house. As it turned out he was supposed to be in the prison when the robbery took place but he sneaked out of the place to do the robbery. Got back in before anyone noticed him gone.
I crapped my pants because I believed he was being followed by LE. If they followed him they would be taking license plate numbers down and they would have known I was there. Never saw an obvious tail, or if there was one and I never heard another word about it. Wheeeeeew.
As to Jesse James Burke being the son of JTG – yup. He would be the brother of Burke’s other son Frank James Burke. Jimmy The Gent had a sense of humor.
