Shanna Gardner and Mario Fernanandez Saldana were each in court Friday for the Jacksonville Beach case involving Gardner's St. Augustine ex-husband.

They are being tried together in the death penalty case. They are both facing multiple charges of taking part in an elaborate plot with 62-year-old Henry Arthur Tenon, who has pleaded guilty to being the triggerman who shot Bridegan on Feb. 16, 2022, when he was on his way back home to St. Augustine. Gardner and Bridegan had a bitter divorce with continued custody and other legal wranglings.


Friday they stood before the judge one at a time but not actually in the courtroom together. Gardner and her attorney Jose Baez were the first to address the judge. When Gardner was escorted out, Fernandez was brought in for his turn.
 
From the hearing, Court set SG's pretrial court date to 2/4/24 (discussed in chambers) due to the next point issues with MF that brought all to a full-stop mid November. MF is trying to dismiss the prosecutor.
 
Baez says they have not had access to the discovery since Nov. 15.

Gardner also waved her right to a speedy trial. Her hearing was relatively short and when they went to bring in Fernandez, Gardner was told to sit to the side and then was taken out of the courtroom. Fernandez did not appear to look at her as he walked past.

The State Attorney's Office has said it was unintentional and the emails were never looked at or opened by the State Attorney's Office or law enforcement.

But, there does appear to be one document in contention and the judge said she takes attorney/client privilege very seriously. The judge offered to have an independent circuit judge hear the arguments about that document which would shield even her from hearing privileged information. We will likely hear more about this in Fernandez's next court appearance on Dec. 11, 2023.

Gardner's next court appearance, however, will be on Feb. 2, 2024.

To me it wouldn't matter if Shanna had Perry Mason as her lawyer. It's blatantly obvious that Shanna married Mario for the sole purpose of plotting and having Jared Bridegan murdered. The only defense Baez can employ is that Mario took it on himself to have Jared killed as he couldn't stand seeing his wife in so much pain over the custody battle.

Hopefully Tenon will testify to both of them being complicit and the State has ample evidence, i.e. phone calls, emails, etc to put them both away. And here's hoping Mario flips on Shanna and has dirt Baez can't sweep under the rug.

Reminds me a bit of the Adelson case with Charlie Adelson using Katie Magbanua to recruit hitmen to eliminate a family "problem".

Can not access this article - I was wondering if it listed the other attorney for Fernandez - as it says in the court site (or article) - 2 attorneys for him. I only have Defense attorney Frank John Tassone, Jr.

TIA if anyone can help me on this other attorney's name! :)

@Niner -- take note that per the Case Portal, Frank Tassone, Jr is the defendant's attorney of record but both Jesse Dreicer and James Hill in attendance per the Docket on 12/1/2023 are partners from the same law firm: Tassone, Dreicer & Hill.

Both Dreicer and Hill have attended other hearings per the docket.

ETA: Looking at the Law Firm Website, the two attorneys that were at the podium with defendant Fernandez on Friday was Jesse Dreicer and James Hill. IMO, Frank Tassone is most likely the attorney of record because he's death penalty qualified but I think Dreicer and Hill are trying the case.

For the first time since Jared Bridegan was gunned down by an alleged hitman, Shanna Gardner and her husband Mario Saldana appeared in court as co-defendants in the murder. The couple are accused of hiring the hitman to kill Gardner's ex-husband, but will they be tried together or separate?

Hey, @Niner, glad you were able to obtain the info. Regretfully, I forget you're unable to view some articles linked at times.
 
While there's been much attention on defendant Gardner's recent hire of $$$ Jose Baez, the husband Fernandez wasted no time finding his own private legal team very early.

From court records, Fernandez was indicted and arrest warrant issued on 3/16/23, and executed on 3/22/23 where Attorney Jesse Dreicer filed notice of appearance the following day on 3/23/23.

I'm still trying to confirm the dynamics of the couple and how soon after the murders SG came to live in Eastern WA -- leaving Fernandez behind in a very nice Orlando townhome.

This article has info about when the WA home was purchased by SG's parents, as well as when she and the twins moved there.


"Seven months later in September 2022, a company run by Gardner’s parents, Sterling and Shelli Gardner, bought the West Richland home, according to records from Benton County Assessor’s Office."

*Pretrial Hearing (@ 9am ET) - FL - Jared Galen Bridegan (33), father of 4 ambushed & killed (shot 4 times), his 2-year-old daughter was just feet away in the back seat, Jacksonville Beach, Feb. 16, 2022. *Henry Arthur Tenon (61/now 62) arrested (1/25/23) & charged (1/26/23) & arraigned (2/16/23) with conspiracy to commit murder in the 1st degree, 2nd degree murder with a weapon, accessory to the fact to a capital felony & child abuse. Plead not guilty. Held without bond (murder) & $1.5M (other counts).
In Tenon's court file "on or between 1/4/22 & 2/16/22, in the county of Duval & the State of Florida, did agree, conspire, combine or confederate with other human beings to, unlawfully and from a premeditated design, effect the death of Bridegan."
Trial was set to begin on 7/19/23 was cancelled, Tenon plead guilty (3/16/23) to 2nd degree murder. Sentencing hearing on 6/14/23 was vacated & rescheduled on 7/12/23 & was vacated.

10/9/23 Update: Status hearing on 10/9/23 was cancelled & now rescheduled on 10/16/23 @ 9am. 10/16/23 Update: Video from the interrogation room of the trigger man who murdered Jared Bridegan, a St. Johns County father of four, was released on Monday. In March Tenon pleaded guilty to 2nd degree murder charges in the Jacksonville Beach shooting death of Bridegan. Nearly 10 hours of video evidence against Tenon was released by the State Attorney's Office. Next hearing on 10/30/23.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Henry Tenon, who pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in the conspiracy to kill Jared Bridegan, made a brief appearance in court Monday for a pretrial hearing.

The judge passed his case until Feb. 5 for the next status hearing.

Tenon, 62, has agreed to testify against others involved in the murder-for-hire case, including Bridegan’s ex-wife, Shanna Gardner, and her estranged husband Mario Fernandez.

The plea agreement signed by Tenon shows he faces at least 15 years in prison. The sentencing judge will give weight to Tenon’s life expectancy and his “early and continuing cooperation in the prosecution of co-defendants.” Bridegan’s family will have input on Tenon’s sentence.
