Found Deceased FL - Taylen Mosley, 2, mom Pashun Jeffery, 20, homicide, St. Petersburg, 29 Mar 2023 *arrest*

Court documents show that prosecutors plan to seek the death penalty against Mosley. Prosecutors have laid out numerous reasons for seeking the death penalty — arguing the crime was especially cruel, the victim was younger than 12 years old and was more vulnerable because his accused killer had authority over him as his parent, court filings said.

Mosley is scheduled to appear in court on Monday morning for a pretrial hearing.
Is it possible for the death penalty to be too good for this monster??? MOO!

At least it's Florida, where it actually means something. I'm generally not a fan, for many reasons, but cases like this are my exception. And in places where it isn't, then it should be LWOP for crimes like this.

No second chances to hurt kids. No exceptions.

Just found this case - I put this together in a rush - since the hearing is today....

Monday, June 12th:
*Pretrial hearing (@ 8:30am ET) - FL - Taylen Mosley (2) went missing Mar. 30, 2023 after a wellness check, LE found his mother Pashun Jeffery (20) dead in the apartment with Taylen missing. *Thomas Isaiah Mosley (21) arrested (4/1/23), indicted (4/27/23), charged & arraigned (5/5/23) with 2 counts of 1st degree murder. Plead not guilty. DA will seek the death penalty.
3/30/23: St. Petersburg police detectives are desperate to find a 2-year-old St. Petersburg boy whose mother was found dead in their northeast St. Pete apartment Thursday. Taylen Mosley just turned 2 on March 12. He is now the subject of a statewide Amber Alert. St. Petersburg chief of police Anthony Holloway said during a press conference Thursday evening that Taylen was last seen with his mother, 20-year-old Pashun Jeffery, around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday outside their Lincoln Shores apartment on 4th Street North. The body of a 2-year-old Taylen who had been the subject of a frantic search after his mother was slain was found Friday, 3/31/23 in a lake in the jaws of an alligator, police said. St. Petersburg Police Chief Anthony Holloway also said the boy’s father, 21-year-old Thomas Mosley, will be charged with two counts of first-degree murder in the killing of the boy’s mother, 20-year-old Pashun Jeffery & their young son Taylen Mosley. Searchers, including dive teams & officers using drones, had been intensely looking for the boy since his mother’s body was discovered in their apartment earlier this week & he was nowhere to be found. Officers searching for the toddler at a lake a few miles from the apartment complex noticed an alligator “with an object in its mouth” that they quickly realized was a child’s body, Holloway said. They fired shots at the reptile, which dropped the body. “We were able to retrieve Taylen’s body intact,” the chief said. The alligator was euthanized. Thomas Mosley is hospitalized with cuts on his hands & arms & has refused to talk to investigators, Holloway said. He does not yet have a lawyer to speak on his behalf. “The father is not talking to us,” he added.
4/1/23 Update: Probable cause found. Charges of 2 counts of 1st degree murder. 4/3/23: Defendant's invocation of constitutional rights. 4/14/23 Update: Status check conference hearing was held. 4/18/23: Court holds Hunter Hearing. Ruling/Order on S motion for subpoena for medical records. Court reserves ruling on subpoena for medical records. Hunter hearing held. 4/27/23: Notice of intent to seek death penalty. Indictment filed. 4/28/23: Notice of confidential crime victim info within court filing.
5/3/23: Waiver of appearance at any pretrial conference or status check hearings. 5/4/23: Order Granting in part & denying in part defendant''s objection to issuance of investigative subpoena order permitting in part disclosure of medical records. 5/5/23: Defense waiver formal arraignment. Pretrial hearing set. Arraignment plea-not guilty. 5/10/23: Notice (6) of expert witness. 5/12/23: Notice of rrequest for costs of prosecution. Demand notice of intention to claim alibi. Answer to demand for discovery. 5/18/23: Acknowledgment of additional discovery. Arraignment hearing on 5/22/23 was cancelled.
6/12/23 Update: Pretrial hearing on 6/12/23 @ 8:30am. Court documents cite four aggravating factors listed in Florida statutes as reasons why the state is seeking the death penalty: Mosley had been convicted of another capital felony or felony that involved the use or threat of violence; the killings were “especially heinous, atrocious or cruel”; the victim was under the age of 12; and the victim was particularly vulnerable because Mosley had familial or custodial authority over them.

I agree completely. I don’t believe in the death penalty in many cases but this one…makes me so angry. That poor baby. I hope this sorry excuse for a dad burns! MOO

Can they just throw the dad in the same lake with the alligators instead of the death penalty?
No, because those alligators did nothing wrong and they already euthanised the poor one that picked up that baby after he was already dead. If there's going to be a death sentence, the only one getting it should be the perpetrator.

(Yeah, I feel sick they had to kill that gator, though I understand why. That creature did nothing wrong, it just followed its nature.)

So the defense is claiming he is incompetent. They assigned 2 doctors to evaluate him and the hearing on 9/11 was cancelled. I suppose it will take a while for the evaluations and the reports to be filed. One thing that is interesting is the reference to the Baker Act regarding his stay in the hospital 3/29/2023 - 3/31/2023. He must have had mental issues at that time as well.

I always find the issue of mental competency interesting. And Baker Act, someone goes to a psych ward for 72 hours, and they leave, miraculously cured?! Hardly.

The man accused of killing his two-year-old son and stabbing the child’s mother to death is headed to the state psychiatric hospital.

A judge ruled Thomas Mosley incompetent to stand trial right now Wednesday morning after reviewing reports from two court appointed doctors who recommended that the state hospital in Chattahoochee is the best place for him right now.

"I find that Mr. Mosley is not competent to proceed, but he is restorable," Judge Susan St. John said to the courtroom.

[...]

Rickman said this is fairly common in criminal court. He said there’s a difference between competency and insanity.

"He’s not saying, ‘hey, I was insane at the time of the offense we're talking about.’ As it stands right now, he's not competent to stand trial. And that's different than somebody being insane or raising that insanity defense," Rickman said.

[...]

There will be another court date on April 22 at 8:30 a.m. to see if Mosley is competent.
