Maui police seek public’s help finding missing person Joseph Wyatt | KHON2

"A mainland family has arrived on Maui to search for a man who disappeared on a camping trip. County authorities have also been looking, but plan to suspend the search after 72 hours.

The Wyatt family reached out to the non-profit Search Tech Advisory Team for help. STAT set up a base camp on the Lahaina side of the lighthouse, and searched the coastline along with Maui Fire.

“Honestly, we’re kind of rookies at this process so we don’t know where we should go or what we should do,” said Wyatt. “And so, it’s been truly a real blessing.” "

Friends told KHON 2 that Wyatt was always with his dog Mana, They found it concerning that the dog was found alone. “The fact that Mana was found running around not with Joey, that’s the part that scared me, because Mana would not have left him,” Scott Wilson, Wyatt’s best friend, told KHON 2.

Family members are planning to search for Wyatt in Maui because police will suspend the search after 72 hours, Hawaii News Now reported.

Sadly, it's not unusual to never find a person who has fallen into the ocean in Hawaii.

"We believe, and the experts agree, that Joey went hiking by the cliffs, had some sort of accident, and fell into the ocean about 120 feet below. A fall of that magnitude would have been fatal upon impact.

The coast guard and fire department have had multiple air and sea crafts to help with the search on the water. Officials of the coast guard dropped buoys in the water to measure the current. They concluded that if anything fell into the water it would wash out to the open seas. Therefore, it is likely his remains will never be found.

Given all of this information, until we have further evidence, we are suspending all searches."

So sad. If this is what happened it’s doubly tragic for his loved ones to know he’ll most likely never be found. Prayers for comfort and peace.

Older case. I can't find any new info, but wanted to just add to the thread that his family did have a Celebration of Life ceremony for him back on October 9, 2022 according to the family FB site. I hope it brought them some degree of closure and peace:
