Tropics remain active with 3 areas being watched closely

While Henri fades Ida could be developing by this weekend. Right now we are watching 3 tropical disturbances in the Atlantic basin. A tropical wave in the eastern Caribbean has a really good chance of developing as it tracks to the west at 20 mph by Saturday. Long range forecast models show it staying well to our south moving toward the Yucatan and then toward Mexico mainland and Texas early next week.

We are watching a tropical wave in the eastern Caribbean, which will trek westward and approach Central America by Friday or Saturday. Environmental conditions are favorable for development, and the National Hurricane Center gives a 60% chance of this wave becoming a tropical cyclone over the next 5 days.

We are prepping and praying here. I live in a small Texas coastal town (Rockport) where Harvey made landfall 4 years ago yesterday. We are just now getting back to normal. :(

Gulf Coast hurricane landfall possible in just days (msn.com)

....there is a general consensus that this system is likely headed for the Louisiana or Texas coast. When exactly it arrives will depend on where it makes landfall — the further west, the longer it will take. But the window ranges from late Sunday through early Tuesday. That doesn't leave much time to prepare......

Hi southern friends....seems weather departments are feeling pretty strong about a solid hurricane.
Close to cat 4 with lots of rain....due to hit land on Sunday.
Right now....it is a beautiful sunny day.

In Florida we refer to sudden rain storms as popcorn showers. I feel like Hurricane Ida is a popcorn Hurricane. It seems like it just popped up, is going to barrel thru and wreak havoc. I hope everyone who can evacuate actually does. If they can't, I hope they reach out for help quickly. I know they're used to storms but they need to get to higher ground due to surge. It's always the dang water..... ugh.

AccuWeather forecasters are projecting Hurricane Ida to make landfall on Aug. 29, exactly 16 years to the day since Hurricane Katrina, a Category 3 storm, made landfall twice along the Gulf Coast, resulting in widespread devastation. https://t.co/P2uQkBQ2iN?amp=1

#Ida is holding steady at its 80 mph intensity as Hurricane Hunters are en route with an upper-level mission in progress.

Residents along the Gulf Coast should get prepared NOW.

I have nothing useful to add. I’m just very worried for those along the Gulf Coast. I imagine all of us here in the Atlantic hurricane corridor are prepared, but I know the fear and uncertainty of whether or not to make the decision to evacuate or shelter in place.

I hope you all stay safe.

Thinking of every one who will be affected by Hurricane Ida.

:(How frightening. And I can’t even imagine the hospital situation.

A catastrophe in the making - extremely dangerous Hurricane Ida is to impact Louisiana late Sunday

There is a laundry list of reasons that the impact from Ida will likely be near the top of the scale.

· There are signs that Ida is wrapping up. Thunderstorms have almost encircled the center.

· Ida is forecast to run over a pool of very deep warm water called the loop current. That’s what Katrina did, which contributed to it exploding into a Category 5 in the middle of the Gulf. That doesn’t mean Ida will become a Cat 5, but it means that it is likely to rapidly strengthen. The current forecast is for it to become a solid Cat 4.

· Computer forecast models have consistently increased their predictions for Ida’s maximum winds

· The upper-level winds are forecast to be conducive for strengthening

· Ida won’t be as physically big across as Katrina, but it is forecast to grow in size. The wider the storm, the more storm surge it produces.

· The water close to the Louisiana coast is much warmer than average

· This has already been one of the wettest summers in the record books in southeastern Louisiana. Flash Flood Watches were in effect just yesterday well in advance of Ida.

· Ida is forecast to dump a foot to a foot and a half of rain, maybe more.

· Ida is forecast to slow down as it moves over the Louisiana coast prolonging the misery from the flooding rain, the storm surge, and the punishing wind.
