Ind. Infant Was Allegedly Starved to Death by Parents Who Said They Forgot to Feed Him

During the interview, Monroe allegedly told police that she had fed the baby earlier, but an autopsy found no formula or milk in the baby's stomach. She then allegedly admitted that she sometimes forgot to feed her son if he was quiet, or if she was busy taking care of her other children.

The affidavit alleges that DCS previously investigated Monroe because of an incident with another child. She was required to keep a feeding log for that child.

During a police interview with Scott, he allegedly admitted the baby didn't eat if he didn't cry. He also couldn't recall if Silas had been fed the day of his death.

Investigators say that the baby, Silas Scott, died of starvation, WFIE reports. His obituary states the he was about 3 months old and that “passed away” at home. The child had three siblings. The obituary said the boy, whose full name was Silas Chance-Kent Scott, died one day after Valentine’s Day. His nickname was “Shuggie Bear.”

One month before Silas died, his parents pleaded guilty to contributing to the delinquency of a minor, and possession of marijuana, court records obtained by Law&Crime show. A juvenile paternity case is also active regarding two of Monroe’s children, according to the outlet.

Sorry but unless that poor baby was drugged, he would be crying no stop. JMOO

Remember that an infant's crying takes a great deal of energy & is designed to get a response. When there is no response -- the infant learns not to cry.

Also saves the poor guy's energy, from the few bottles he was given.

Agree with you, though, and wonder what exactly was in the few bottles he was granted...Benadryl?

this bit right here tho is what chaps my hiney. She has already had this issue of not feeding a previous child properly. She was on notice with this one because of the previous DCFS interactions over another child and feeding. There is literally no excuse.

Silas Chance-Kent Scott Obituary

[note: I have redacted the minor siblings names from the obit]
ETA I am glad to see the family didn't list the parents names in little man's obituary. I wouldn't have wanted them listed there either.

Agreed. The baby did not have the energy left to cry and even if he could nobody was coming for him.

I wonder if formula was found in the home or if the parents couldn't be bothered or were to cheap to buy any. I don't want to hear an excuse of not being able to afford it.

Wondering if there is a plea in the works. These individuals should never get the opportunity to reproduce again!
