This is the tragic story of a British expat who was found stabbed to death in her Italian home. Her partner, also British, could not be traced initially but has now been arrested by Leicester Police in the UK. It will be interesting to see if/when he’ll go back to Italy to be questioned by Italian police.

As usual, whilst the UK press have not yet named the arrested man, Italian MSM have published his name, as well as FB pictures of the two together. Omicidio Chieti, arrestato in Gran Bretagna il compagno della 66enne uccisa

According to Italian MSM (and the Daily Mail):
- Italian authorities have issued an international arrest warrant for Michele‘s partner who is currently held by Leicestershire Police;
- on Sunday he drove over 2K miles to Shepshed, near Loughborough, where he was arrested at a property owned by his daughter;
- it is reported that Michele was stabbed 7 times in the back and was found on the floor of her Italian home, covered with a white sheet.

BBM: I wonder if the daughter was there? Imagine the scare of your Dad turning up after what has happened. Beyond upsetting. JMO MOO.

Re this link above, how do the Italian Police know that he left the farmhouse in the early hours of Sunday 29th October?

This is going to drag on if the next UK hearing is going to be in Feb ‘24. Allegedly, he only came back to the UK to visit family and presumably had no idea his partner had just been stabbed to death in their home

Prosecution papers in Italy detail how tragic Michele Faiers, 66, was also allegedly attacked by her partner Michael Whitbread, 74, after a furious row between the couple just weeks before she died. The attack left her 'covered in bruises' and 'fearing for her life' according to testimony from her close friend Petrina Keay - who later found her lifeless body at her home in Italy. (…)
Petrina told detectives the 'furious fight' between Michele and Whitbread, had left her friend 'fearing for her life' and she had opened up to her about the bitter relationship in the days leading up to her death.(…)
Michele was found dead on November 1 (…)
Police have established she was killed four days earlier. (…)
Police established through CCTV at the couple's home, that Whitbread had left in the early hours of October 29 in their Jeep Compass and began the 1,000 mile drive to the UK. (…)
Whitbread is currently on remand in Wandsworth prison and is facing extradition proceedings to Italy and at his first appearance refused to agree to being sent back.

So according to that news report there is another UK single female, resident in Italy (Abruzzo I presume) involved in the story be association of having her bottom slapped by the accussed. Then the mention of the partner of the person whose bottom was slapped receiving alleged texts from the accussed. All very concerning. JMO MOO

UPDATES

Michele’s post mortem was carried out earlier today, almost a month after she was murdered. According to the Daily Mail article quoted earlier, Italian authorities were waiting for Michele’s family to appoint a legal representative. But then it turned out that Michele had Covid when she died and the autopsy had to be done elsewhere, causing further delays.

According to today’s post mortem, Michele received 9 stab wounds and the fatal one was to the thoracic aorta. She tried to defend herself before she died.

(An article from a few days ago stated that Michael Whitbread’s Italian court-appointed lawyer still hadn’t been able to contact him or his UK legal team Inglese uccisa con 7 coltellate, l’autopsia slitta a domani )

oh no - not only was she fighting for her life but she was unwell with Covid at the time then. Poor Michele!

The sad day Michele's daughters came to the house of the crime. Sarah and Harriett, 37 and 28 years old respectively, were accompanied by the vice consul of the British embassy in Rome.

CASOLI. Two of Michele Faiers Dawn's three daughters arrived in Casoli today to take over the keys of the Verratti farmhouse, where a month ago their 66-year-old mother was found dead. (…)

In the morning they were in the prosecutor's office in Lanciano (…) At 2pm, in the barracks of the carabinieri of Casoli, the they were given back the keys to the house (…).

Sarah and Harriett appeared distraught, the youngest crying often. They entered the house alone and only stayed there for a few minutes. They will return to recover the mother's personal belongings.

What a terrible thing to have to do, to go the scene of the crime, also their mother's home. Condolences to Michele's daughters

Is MW in prison in UK awaiting trial? Anyone know?
Yes, according to this article. The extradition hearing is scheduled for 26 February. The article also says that Michele was buried at the end of December in Casoli where she died. Two of her daughters and thirty or so Brits living locally attended the funeral.

Thanks for that. It won't let me read it without subscribing so thanks for info. Is the extradition hearing in UK about extraditing him to Italy?

That’s right. Meanwhile the Italian authorities have appointed a forensic IT expert who will have to examine the couple’s phones and tablets, and provide a report within 60 days. (No rush then)

I'm confused by this part:
"
The police file described the woman as a retired 62-year-old company director, whose identity is known to the Mail.

She is a divorced mother-of-two originally from Bath and who moved to Italy several years ago to start a new life with her partner, a former postman from Surrey."

In the second part, are they referring to the person the accused had an alleged affair with or are they referring to the deceased MF?

Thanks for the link @Officer Dibble A lot of new info in the DM article. They are referring to the woman Whitbread had an alleged affair with, but I don’t get how all this info about her background is relevant.
