Shep reporting live that US nuclear agency, has announced that there is no water at all in the pools covering the rods. So what does this mean?

IMHO: Beware Mixed Messages Even on matters of life and death everyone has their opinion.

but other experts say there is a low chance of Japan's radiation reaching the U.S. at dangerous levels. snip, snip

I wonder if the nuclear fall out dangers were told to the united states when we dropped two nuclear bombs on Japan during WWII? I wonder if the radiation from those bombs have gotten to the US yet?

:waitasec:

Maybe that explains the Flower Children of the late 1960s and early 1970s. Eh? Those baby boomers were exposed to invisible radiation floating around the globe for years and years after.

I think the message we should be receiving is listen to what we are being told, but BE PREPARED, because sometimes (most of the time?), we aren't told the truth. Our safety is up to us and we can't depend on the government for anything, except taxes.

PS - Why does this annoying box show up instead of just a simple link?

Feds deploy more radiation monitors in western US
Federal environmental regulators say they are adding more radiation monitors in the western United States and Pacific territories as concerns rise over exposure from damaged nuclear plants in Japan.

Guess the feds are concerned enough to add more monitors.. this tells me they are not that sure what might happen.

There is NO water in any of the pools?

It depends on if the containment vessel has been breached... Without water, the rods will heat up...

If the container is still intact there is no immediate issue...

ETA: None in any pool?

Ok so this link says:The EPA says data from the monitors are available on its website for coastal states, Hawaii, Guam and American Samoa.

Online:

U.S. EPA's radiation monitoring data: http://www.epa.gov/radiation/

You go there and I can't find any live monitors..........lmbo.

I did find this though.........

How to Access RadNet Data
RadNet near-real-time data can be viewed on EPA’s Central Data Exchange (CDX) website at
http://www.epa.gov/cdx.
Radiation emergency response experts can request access to a restricted RadNet data site, where all
RadNet data is housed before being released for public access.
As we develop a unified federal web and
transparency system, additional data summaries and characterizations will be developed for wider
communication and access.

If they aren't covered with water & cooled very soon, they will burn & melt - and emit hazardous levels of radiation.

This number of fuel rods have more radioactivity than a core meltdown. HUGE amount of radiation being released. mo

Pools Storing Spent Fuel May Present Biggest Risk at Fukushima

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2011-...el-may-present-biggest-risk-at-fukushima.html

Quote: As water evaporates and exposes the fuel, the uranium in the rods can burn through a protective sheath emitting heat and radioactive cesium. After that, the uranium may mix with any remaining water to start an uncontrolled nuclear reaction that sends radiation into the atmosphere, scientists said. Unlike the plant’s reactors, the pools aren’t encased in steel and concrete.
