The importance of the search for the sake of Marriotts family could not be overstated, said Frank Masciulli, uncle of Melanie Melanson, who went missing exactly 23 years ago on Saturday in Woburn, Mass. Melansons relatives were on Peirce Island Sunday, providing meals for the searchers.
The Air Wing is said to be helping with photos of an excavation in the renewed search for Melanie Melanson's remains.

Another year has passed, and another billboard along Interstate 93 is being displayed. It still asks the same question more than two decades later: Where is Melanie Melanson?
"Melanie's not missing. Melanie didn't run away. She didn't disappear. Melanie is a murder victim," Melanson's aunt Maryann Masciulli said...
Her family has forgiven the people they believe killed their niece, but they cannot absolve what has happened since. "But now 25 years later they're adults. They have children of their own. Look at your child, your niece, your nephew, your own child -- one day just gone," Cail said.
Over the years, the woods where Melanson was last seen have been searched extensively. There have been other digs. But right now, investigators are focused on one backyard. It is an area they have long wanted to search.
Forensic Anthropologist Dr. Ann Marie Mires is directing the search and says if she is there, "We'll find her."
A cadaver dog, ground penetrating radar, and witness statements have all led investigators to the backyard. Woburn police closely watch, as Dr. Mires and her team methodically examine three areas here.
Another year has passed and still no answers on what happened to Melanie Melanson, a Woburn teen who went missing 26 years ago.
I saw her show on ID Discovery Network today and was wondering if anything became of this search. http://www.myfoxboston.com/news/inv...-backyard-for-teen-missing-since-1989/7337881
I couldn't find anything more recent searching google.
Family members believe that Melanie’s body may have been moved since then, especially after the heat turned up on the searches.
Alan Tate, a licensed professional investigator and founder of Mission for the Missing, has been working on Melanie’s case for years, and has said that multiple ground searches have taken place, but haven’t turned up any new information, bodies, or leads.
At this point, there have been no formal suspects, arrests, or persons of interests named.
