Robert Bashara will go to trial in November

By Christine Ferretti
The Detroit News

Detroit — Robert Bashara's trial date on solicitation of murder charges has been set for November.

Prosecutors said Thursday they expect there will be 10 to 12 witnesses called in the case, which will likely take less than a week when it begins Nov. 12.

Robert Bashara and his attorney were in court Thursday to set dates for motions and a trial on solicitation of murder charges. The Grosse Pointe Park man is accused of attempting to hire a hit man to kill the handyman who has claimed he was paid by Bashara to kill Bashara's wife, Jane Bashara.

Wayne County Circuit Judge Bruce U. Morrow presided over Thursday's scheduling conference.

Bashara was formally arraigned earlier this month by Chief Circuit Judge Timothy M. Kenny. Morrow was absent.

Bashara's attorney, Mark Kriger, waived a formal reading of the charges. Kenny entered a not guilty plea on Bashara's behalf.

Kenny at the arraignment also approved a request from Wayne County prosecutors to implement a protective order to keep discovery in the case private...

Bob Bashara Faces Trial In November

DETROIT (WWJ) - Bob Bashara’s murder solicitation trial will not be heard until late in the fall.

Wayne County Judge Bruce Morrow set the next court date for November 12 after it was determined that scheduling conflicts with defense attorney Mark Kriger could not allow for an earlier date.

...

Bashara was dressed in a suit instead of prison garb, speaking only to his attorney during Thursday’s brief hearing.

Kriger, who recently took Bashara on as a client, on Thursday maintained his position on holding court with the reporters. ”I’m not going to comment on the case. It’s my policy,” he said.

Krieger’s policy contrasts sharply with that of Bashara’s former attorney, David Griem, known for his frequent and candid media interviews...

A Nov. 12 trial was set for Bob Bashara on the accusation he tried to hire a hit man to kill Joe Gentz, his former handyman who has reportedly admitted to killing Bashara’s wife.

Judge Bruce Morrow set the court date during a brief hearing this morning in Wayne County Circuit Court in Detroit, attended by Bashara’s attorney, Mark Kriger, and assistant prosectors Robert Moran and Lisa Lindsey.

Morrow said he expected the trial to take no longer than three days, although he did not indicate whether that included jury selection. The judge did appear to discuss with attorneys the potential use of a juror questionnaire to help seat a panel to hear the case.

Bashara, 54, appeared in court dressed in a blazer and slacks...

Nov. 12 Trial Date Set for Bob Bashara

In a brief hearing early Thursday, attorneys and the judge handling Bob Bashara's solicitation of murder case set a November trial date and discussed procedural issues.

Bob Bashara, wearing a suit in Third Circuit Court early Thursday, continually wrote during his brief hearing--to the point the judge asked what he was doing. (lol) :)
Bashara paused momentarily and answered the judge, saying he was making some notes for himself.

That was essentially the only time he spoke, addressed the judge or looked at the judge.

...

Judge Bruce Morrow set a trial date of Nov. 12 after checking the calendars of the attorneys. He originally wanted a date in October, but Bashara's new attorney, Mark Kriger, said he would be in a federal court trial then.

They settled on Nov. 12 and then both sides discussed briefly some procedural topics. Deputy prosecutors Robert Moran and Lisa Lindsey said they have turned over all of their discovery to Kriger but noted they have not yet received anything from him.

They also told the judge they anticipate a complete witness list soon but at a minimum it would be submitted at least 30 days before the trial.

Bashara continued taking notes after the hearing technically ended and then spoke briefly with Kriger before being escorted out of the courtroom by Wayne County Sheriff's deputies.

The attorneys talked with Morrow at the bench for a few minutes after Bob Bashara's departure about procedure. Kriger declined comment afterward, offering only that Bob Bashara is holding up as well as can be expected given the circumstances.

He declined to comment about whether there is another pending case likely ahead for Bashara...

DETROIT (WJBK) -
A trial date of November 12 has been set for Bob Bashara charged with trying to hire a hit man to kill Joe Gentz.

...

We asked Bashara's new attorney, Mark Kriger, whether he has been in contact with the prosecutor's office about another case that could be coming against his client.

"I'm not commenting on anything that's pending in terms of the case itself."

Kriger is keeping quiet on the pending case and the current case, the solicitation of murder case expected to last three days.

...

Now Bashara is sitting behind bars, as well, and could face life in prison if convicted.

"He's holding up as best as he can under the circumstances," Kriger said

DETROIT — A trial date of Nov. 12 has been set for Bob Bashara on the charge he hired a hit man to kill Joe Gentz.

The date was set at a hearing last week in Wayne County Circuit Court.

Bashara is charged with one count of solicitation to murder a witness, a crime punishable by up to life in prison. According to prosecutors, Bashara attempted to hire someone to kill Gentz, who has been charged in the murder of Bob's wife, Jane Bashara.

...

(Bashara) was arrested June 25 in Grosse Pointe Park on the solicitation to murder charge. According to police, Bashara offered to pay Detroit appliance store owner Steve Tibaudo to arrange to have Gentz killed in the Dickerson Correctional Facility where he has been incarcerated since his arrest in March.

Prosecutors have Bashara and Tibaudo on tape discussing the murder of Gentz. Bashara pleaded not guilty at his arraignment in July. He remains in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $15 million cash bond.

Bashara will be represented at trial by a new attorney, Mark Kriger. His former attorney, David Griem, will himself be in court on Tuesday, Sept. 4, to discuss whether he improperly shared discovery information in the Jane Bashara murder case with members of Bob Bashara's family. Griem removed himself as Bashara's attorney in July, stating that he and his client "we're no longer on the same page, we're not even in the same book.

I sure hope the judge doesn't change the bond amount! After his stalking of RG, intimidation of other witness's, etc., he does not deserve to walk the streets once again. He must be going crazy in there. JB family will be soooo upset. I hope they come and speak up against this request.

With the trial a few weeks away, I sincerely doubt that the judge will lower his bail. Also, we need to remember this guy is not only accused of trying to get Gentz killed, he was intimidating so many other possible witnesses.

Even home on GPS, this man would be a real danger, even if his loving mom speaks as to his good character!

Prosecutors say Bashara's family support fades as bond hearing nears

A new prosecution court filing says that Bob Bashara has gone from a protected loved one to a near outcast disdained by his mother, sister and cousin.

The Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office filing also said that Bashara threatened to disinherit his daughter and that he’s gotten a new girlfriend to do his bidding.

"I’m through,” the filing said Nancy Bashara told her son in July during a monitored telephone call from the Wayne County Jail where he is being held on a $15-million cash bond on a charge of solicitation to murder.

Does that mean Mom won't post a lowered bail if he were to get it?

I guess the fog has gone. I'm glad. It was near impossible to ignore all the things he has done, family or not.
