A Sanilac County man has been missing for a couple of months and family members are fearing the worst.

"It's just like somebody plucked him out of where he was living and he just disappeared," Sharon Peterson said.

Peterson's brother, Joseph Wurfel, 59, was reported missing in December from where he lived in Marlette after selling his Harrison Township home in August.

Prior to that, Peterson said, the family had no contact with him since before Thanksgiving.

Wurfel left behind his vehicle and clothing, Peterson said.

"He had just bought groceries and all of the perishables spoiled," she said.

The direct deposits he had set up for his disability check are still coming in but no other activity is occurring on his bank account, Peterson said.

Wurfel's cellphone was disconnected a few weeks after he vanished.

Peterson said she and other family members are worried that they won't see her brother alive again.

"We think he is gone," she said. "Deceased."

Wurfel, who turns 60 in April, stands 6 feet, 2 inches tall and weighs 185 pounds.
