MI MI - New Buffalo, "Betty the Bag Lady", WhtFem 65-75, UP8224, wrapped in sheet/towel/2 bags, Aug'92

Well, If I was a criminal, who was about to get caught, I perhaps would throw out as many conflicting stories as I could . From the article
A neighbor who lived next door to the Jost's for 20 years told investigators they had never seen Marie or Theodore at home
also this
Deputies say information provided by family members has been inconsistent. Thursday, NewsChannel 7 learned Dolores Disher first told investigators she saw her mother less than a year ago. Then she changed her story, saying she hadn't seen her since her sister's funeral in 1980.

so somewhere between 1-30 years.

I thought I read that she had not used medical benefits (presumably Medicare) since the early 80's. that to me is the dead giveaway.

webrocket, Yes, that is awhile for no care.
I wish they would at least release a description of the two missing. I have yet to see a photo of either one.

I did pass this on to the michigan state police. I figured it can't hurt. I think it is worth at least checking into. I tell you it would make my year to identify this woman!!!

Ginestra,
I missed your post. This is a great find. From 131 (portage county) there is an I-94 exit that could take you all the way to Berrien County. Sure hope this brings a conclusion to the missing woman in Berrien County!

Bubblyone,
I think you might be thinking of indiana, the Jost's are from wisconsin There were checks sent to wonder lake, illinois. Which is about 2 hours and 45 min from New buffalo.

I have been thinking of the missing hands. Perhaps there was an identifying mark or deformity on her hands? Or maybe a criminal record....? High security job? ??????

Yes, I am still on this!! hee hee! You know I was trying to find like an original article on this, and could not. I am sure something would of been printed at the time she was found. If I missed one, forgive me.........

Just a thought on the broken spine from a nurse lady with a decade plus of orthopedic and nursing home experience. Given her age and the fact that she is petite, it is quite possible that her spinal fracture wasn't caused by trauma but by osteoporosis. Women who are small boned and light as this little dear appears to be are far more likely to experience compression fractures due to osteoporotic bone changes than women who are taller and heavier. Women who have never had children are also more likely to experience fractures related to osteoporosis. I wonder if they were able to determine if she had ever had children.
This case bugs me so badly because she reminds me of a lady I cared for many years ago who was just the sweetest little lady ever. I really hope that they are able to give her back her identity soon.

Ginestra,
You are correct, I was thinking of Indiana. However, I-94 loops right around from wisconsin through illinois up to Michigan, and that would not be a stretch at all.

Do you remember the lady named Jean that went missing in Nevada about 20 years ago? She worked at a bank out in California. I am thinking that perhaps someone who worked in that industry would have prints on file, hence a reason why they would want the hands and prints gone. Just trying to make a connection (where I think one does not fit!!)

You are right it is close.
There is also the Jean Moore case. Her fiance claimed he dropped her off at a casino, to play her favorite game, never to be seen again. Security cameras never saw her there. The fiance's name was Al Henderson. Jean's height/weight is close to uid. Jean went missing in april 1992. Playing around with the last person to see her, I did bring somone up with that name from New buffalo. I am not sure if one and the same. I wish I could get a more complete version of Al's name.......
I looked at that one for quite a while too.

ok, found an interesting one here, dates are a little off, but height/weight are close, and was under medical supervision......

If she could make it to Texas, who's to say that she couldn't make it to Michigan? It certainly couldn't hurt to call it in. Worst case scenario-you're wrong and keep looking. Best case scenario-it's Valeria and the police can start concentrating on who did this to her.

bumping, thinking of her today, wishing we could find out who she is.

You know another unidentified female was found in Berrien County (no real description of where in Berrien County) 12 days before this one. It says missing head and limbs......I wonder if there is any connection to the two? Here is the namus link https://identifyus.org/en/cases/8399

I know this may sound silly but does this link include graphic pictures? I want to look but sometimes I have found myself seeing more than I was ready to.
