MN - Amir Locke, 22, fatally shot in no-knock raid, Minneapolis, 2 FEB 2022

Lodging with criminals, living in crime-laden areas, and sleeping with a gun are not crimes. And even if they were, the justice system decides the punishment - not LE.
Except in this particular case, LE were not 'punishing' anyone.
A.L. was neither forced nor compelled to lodge with criminals due to poverty.
He made a choice to stay with people who were possibly involved in a homicide.
It's one thing to live in an area with known criminals, but another decision entirely to lodge with them.

There are many cases of LE defending themselves and rightfully so -- but very few (if any) cases where LE are 'punishing' anyone.
They know this is not their job.
The courts will handle it.

If A.L. didn't have his gun in his hand and complied ; there might not have been any charges at all --for him anyway.
If A.L. did face charges, he would have had his day in court.
That is what is a simple fact.
Imo.

Not at all. But most of us don’t put themselves in such dangerous situations that we have to sleep with a gun.

I think it is our luck, not choice. Where and how we were born and raised. Studies have shown that in making life choices, we tend to follow not our parents, but our peers. However, if someone was born in a poor community, and his most talented peer is a successful dealer, what choices do people make? I agree that Mekhi Speed made the wrong choice, but Amir Locke, did not make any specific choice, he just stayed with his cousin (and quite likely, did not know about the murder).

i had said this before. he was probably poor / socio economically disadvantaged, and unless you have experienced this level then you cant say what you would do.

We have an issue with No-knock warrants and the things that can go wrong. With more and more people having guns (permitted and not), the police are more likely to wind up in gun battle.

Bad information and/or innocent people shot and/or killed (just a few BTW)
Kathryn Johnson was 92 when she was killed.

A teenager has received a four-year prison term for being an accomplice in a shooting death in St. Paul that set in motion a predawn raid in a downtown Minneapolis apartment that ended with Amir Locke's killing by police.

Feysal J. Ali, of Minneapolis, was sentenced Wednesday in Ramsey County District Court after he pleaded guilty to being an accomplice to second-degree murder in connection with the death of Otis R. Elder, 38, on Jan. 10, 2022, as Elder sat in his vehicle.

With credit for time in jail since his arrest, Ali is expected to serve roughly two years in prison and the balance on supervised release.

Elder was shot in the back during a suspected drug transaction outside a music recording studio in the 500 block of N. Prior Avenue.

The shooter, Mekhi C. Speed, now 19, was sentenced in July 2022 to a term of more than 16 years after pleading guilty to second-degree murder. Speed is expected to serve roughly 10.5 years in prison and the balance on supervised release.

Speed was 17 when Elder was killed, and Ali was 16. Both were prosecuted in adult court.

At the time of the shooting, Speed was living in a unit of the Bolero Flats Apartment Homes at 1117 S. Marquette Av. and also had access to a different unit where police barged in on Feb. 2, 2022, and shot the 22-year-old Locke, who was sleeping on the couch and emerged from under a blanket with a gun in his hand. Speed and Locke were cousins.
