MO - Megan Shultz, 24, found deceased, Columbia, 4 Aug 2006 *Husband Arrested in 2019*

I am so very, very grateful that the horrendous night he stole Megan's life was too heavy of a burden for him to carry around all these years and he talked.

My thoughts and prayers go out to Megan's loved ones. May justice finally be served.

Police in Columbia, Missouri say they found human remains in the city landfill that may belong to a woman who has been missing for 13 years.

Police Chief Geoff Jones said they could not yet confirm that the remains they found belong to Megan Shultz.

She was reported missing in 2006.

Jones said extensive DNA testing will be needed and could take a long time.

Jones says the dig will continue in hopes of finding additional evidence.

Police began the dig after Shultz’s former husband, 37-year-old Keith Alan Comfort, allegedly confessed to killing her and putting the body in a trash bin. Comfort is now charged with second-degree murder.

Remains found in Columbia landfill identified as Megan Shultz

The Columbia Police Department confirmed Friday the remains found in September at the Columbia landfill are "99.99%" those of missing Columbia woman Megan Shultz.

In a release, CPD said detectives submitted a DNA sample to a private lab for comparison to the human remains found on September 18th.

The information Comfort told authorities led CPD investigators and city leaders to conduct an exploratory dig at the Columbia landfill looking for dated and postmarked items close to the time of Shultz disappearance.

Investigators used that information to narrow down a smaller patch of landfill to search. On September 18th, CPD and city leaders confirmed they had found what they believed to be human remains were they were searching.

This is the most recent article I was able to find on Keith's trial. It's from January and hearings have come and gone since then.

Keith Comfort's trial temporarily delayed, awaits status hearing

After looking further into the trial at Missouri case.net it seems the hearings are either being continued or rescheduled. There's another hearing scheduled for April 11th.

Just surprised MSM hasn't updated on this since.

Boone County prosecutors and defense to work on timeframe for trial in Comfort murder case | 93.9 The Eagle

A trial date has not been set for a Columbia man charged with strangling his wife to death and then putting her body in an apartment dumpster on Amelia.

40-year-old Keith Comfort appeared briefly Tuesday in Boone County Circuit Court, via video.

Public defender Kevin O’Brien asked Judge Jeff Harris for a continuance, which was granted. Counselor O’Brien tells the court he’ll work with the Boone County assistant prosecutor Susan Boresi to come up with a timeframe for a trial. The judge has rescheduled the status hearing for July 11.

Set to go to trial next week
