Officials allege that there is one abductor, 31-year-old Corey Lamont Patterson.

Marlaya is described as being a black female, 3 feet tall and 40 pound. She has brown hair and brown eyes.

Corey is described as being a black male, 5 feet 6 inches in height and weighing 140 pounds. He has brown hair and brown eyes.

Police: 1 dead in north Charlotte neighborhood (wbtv.com)
Officers responded to the 1600 block of Swan Drive, close to Oakdale Road, around 6:30 a.m. When they arrived, they found a woman with an apparent gunshot wound.

She was pronounced dead on the scene by Medic.

Following an extensive investigation, Marlaya Patterson has been located. As additional information develops, it will be released by the CMPD's Public Affairs Office.

I hope she was indeed found safe. LE did not actually state that she was safe. They cancelled the Amber Alert and said she was "located". No mention was made of where Marlaya was found nor was anything said about locating Corey Lamont Patterson.

Good news this morning. Marlaya is safe.

Detectives have charged Corey Patterson with the murder of Marlaya’s mother, 27-year-old Jaqusica Wilson, as well as possession of a firearm by a felon.

I received this alert this weekend.

This is the second time recently where an Amber Alert was issued in North Carolina, but the public was not initially informed that the suspected abductor was armed and dangerous and had killed somebody.

Would it really be that hard for an Amber Alert to include a warning not to approach the suspected kidnapper?

“You never know what’s going on behind those walls, you never know,” DB, who lives down the street from Corey Patterson on Swan Drive, told WBTV.

She said she rarely sees Patterson.

“He doesn’t go outside, you see him take the dogs out, but that’s it,” she said. “I’ve never seen a woman over there, never seen a child.”

According to court records, Patterson has a criminal record with convictions in several counties.

He was given probation in 2020 in Gaston County after a common law robbery conviction. In 2016, he was released from prison after serving a little more than one year for habitual breaking and entering.

According to court records later that year, in Oct. 2016, he faced a charge of negligent child abuse of another child he shared with Wilson who was one years old. It was dismissed on a lack of evidence, with the dismissal statement saying the state could not prove who was responsible for the non-accidental trauma.
