Circumstances of Disappearance
Arms was seen at approximately 20:00 on his sailboat with two friends approximately 1 mile east of Schuyler Island when they went to an open area of Lake Champlain. The boat hit very rough water and flipped over twice. Arms and his friends were all wearing life jackets so they decided to abandon the boat and swim to the nearest island. The two friends he was with were swimming ahead of him and saw Arms swimming behind them most of the way. Both friends made it to Schuyler Island but Arms never did. His life jacket was later found by the Coast Guard. Arms has not been seen nor heard from since.

Most likely, Jeff drowned... maybe something bit him, he hit a rock, water entered his nose and he couldn't go on... at least he didn't suffer so much...
rest in peace

I never heard more about this, so assume Jefferson was not a match to the small piece of bone from Lake Champlain. I was following that for awhile, and it seems that case was pretty conclusively narrowed down to someone with very specific Jewish ancestry, to certain surnames, etc. None of which seemed familiar to the area of Vermont where Jeff was from.

I assume his remains are lost to Lake Champlain, but maybe someday this can be solved.
