''Homicide Squad detectives are also investigating whether Bittrolff killed a third woman, Sandra Costilla, 28, of Queens, whose cause of death resembles Tangredi’s and McNamee’s, authorities said. Costilla was found dead in North Sea on the South Fork on Nov. 20, 1993.

“The manner of death, the positioning of her body, and the trace evidence of Ms. Costilla is similar to that of Tangredi and McNamee,” Suffolk County District Attorney Thomas Spota told reporters Tuesday during at a news conference at his Hauppauge office.

He did not say of Costilla also worked as a prostitute, but noted: “She had a lifestyle that may have been substantially similar.”

Sandra Costilla was found murdered at the Fish Cove Camp at 50 Fish Cove Road in North Sea on November 20, 1993.
Authorities said Tangredi’s and McNamee’s cases were similar in that both bodies were “uniquely positioned” and the same “significant” piece of clothing was missing, but declined to elaborate. Similar biological and trace evidence were found at both crime scenes.
“Cause and manner of death of both these women are exactly the same,” Spota said.''

''Police searched in North Sea Friday with a K-9 unit at the location of an unsolved 1993 murder.
Sources tell News 12 the multiagency search has now expanded to an area in North Sea, where the body of Sandra Costilla was found in 1993, a case that remains unsolved.
In the past, convicted murderer John Bittrolff has been tied to the death of Costilla but was never charged.''

"I think Bittrolf might have murdered other women in other unsolved cases." Sgt. Leser said. "To start with, there is Sandra Costilla. who was 28, found murdered in the woods of North Sea in between the times when Tangredi and McNamee were murdered. There are other cases that I think he might be responsible for. “We’re working on them.”

“Detectives knew that whoever did it had a lot of rage, said Leser. The beatings were savage. Then their bodies were staged exactly alike with each victims arms placed behind her back, legs spread wide apart, and a left shoe missing from each victim. Each had wood chips or shavings trace evidence on them.”

“Detectives also thought the same killer was likely responsible for the third murder of Costilla, of Queens, whose beaten and strangled body was found staged in the same manner in the woods of North Sea on November 20, 1993. Three women killed in similar fashion within three months. "There was no semen in Sandra Costilla said Sgt. Leser. "But like Tangredi and McNamee her left shoe was missing."
