Attorneys reconvened in court Monday morning, agreeing to start the new trial with jury selection Feb. 27.

Multiple witnesses had traveled to Rochester from afar to testify in the trial. They will likely need to be brought back in.''

12/6/23 Wednesday, Trial Day 6: A mistrial has been declared in the trial of Williams. Judge Tom Maran said a case of "juror misconduct" was to blame. Visibly irate, Judge Moran chastened the jury for its conduct, without identifying specifics other than some members may have spoken of the case. DA Sandra Doorley declined to say specifically what was the misconduct, except to say that it arose from more than one juror. "It's not just one juror," she said. "It was a jury issue that could not be cured." Williams' defense lawyers requested the mistrial after learning of the issue. New trial date is 2/27/24 with jury selection.

Jurors in cold case murder trial admonished to "avoid any media"
''ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Jurors in the second murder trial of Timothy Williams were sent home Tuesday with a strict order from the judge: don’t watch any media.
The cold case murder trial they’re on ended in a mistrial in December because of the actions of at least one juror and the memory of that mistrial appears to be hanging over this trial.

Just before the jury was dismissed, Judge Alex Renzi told the 12 jurors and four alternates, “I’m going to stress to you again and I may sound like a broken record – avoid any media. There is tremendous temptation and it will grow (during the trial) but you can’t do it.”

Retired Rochester police homicide investigator Gary Galleta took the stand, testifying to being called to respond to a report of a deceased female. He said when he arrived on scene off Rosewood Terrance, he found Jerome’s body in an alcove near School No. 33 and Webster Avenue. He described the clothing she was wearing as blue jeans, white sneakers, and a heavier black leather ‘winter-type’ coat.

But the murder of teenager Wendy Jerome in Rochester on Thanksgiving night, 1984, is still crystal clear in their minds.

Retired RPD investigator Mike Mazzeo testified at the murder trial Wednesday.

He collected the evidence that, 40 years later, was used for DNA to arrest the defendant, Williams.

3/1/24 Friday, Trial Day 4: State witness: Dr. Nicholas Forbes worked at the Monroe County Medical Examiner’s Office from 1978 to 2002 & performed autopsy. The jury were shown images from that autopsy. The images included Wendy’s fractured jaw, broken nose, fractured skull, trauma to genitals, and more. Forbes described her cause of death as a result of “blunt force trauma.”

In video captured by police in Florida after arresting him, Timothy Williams could be heard saying "My life is over" and "I should've never answered the door."

Retired Rochester Police Inv. John Brennan took the stand to testify about Williams' arrest and to explain how his DNA was collected.

Testimony continues in Troy Parker’s murder, arson trial

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Testimony Wednesday was all about DNA evidence in the cold case murder trial of Timothy Williams, who is accused of killing a 14-year-old girl on Thanksgiving in 1984.

More witnesses for the prosecution testified Wednesday. Several forensic experts who tested the data in the case walked the court through how they gather samples, how they understand the data, and how they determine the quality of the DNA linking Williams to the murder of Wendy Jerome.

The jury Wednesday heard how the forensic technology available at the Monroe County crime lab changed over the years. And as it did, DNA samples for cold cases like this one were occasionally retested. The jury heard in great detail how they look at hairs, blood and semen stains to collect data, and then how they vet that dat.

Some of Wednesday’s testimony was repeat testimony from that trial — but the court did hear from Monroe County crime lab employee Mara Sommer for the first time.

The final witness for the prosecution will testify Thursday morning. After that, the defense has a chance to call their witnesses. Prosecutors say they’re hoping for closing arguments to begin Thursday.
