He was discharged in 85 but imprisoned in 89 until 2005. He would have only been "active" in Cleveland from 85 thru 89.

Interesting article. I wonder if the women whose bodies were found after Sowell went to jail went missing before he was in jail?

It would be interesting to know whether the rate of women going missing decreased significantly in the 15 or 16 year period that Sowell was in jail. This help inform us whether there could possibly be another killer in the area.

This is a little different in that she was stabbed AND found in her home.

I do think it's possible he committed murders other than the bodies located at his home. I could be wrong but when his step-mom was still living in the home, he may have prowled more. After the step-mom went into the assisted living facility, he had the whole house to himself.

Good point. A criminologist on NG last night said that we put too much stock in murderers' MOs, and that many killers just do whatever is most convenient. Perhaps Sowell may not have so much targeted black women but may have killed whomever he had easiest access to, in this case, black women... at least that we know so far...

I forgot to add that if more than one person is involved, that's a different thing. It's not totally impossible that he acted with others. Scary, but a "gang" or "ring" of serial killers is not completely out of the realm of possibility. I pray it's not the case, but in this strange world, you never know...

The article you linked is a very interesting one in that the similarites to AS' MO are dead on. I'm not saying that strangulation was the ONLY way he murdered, but it certainly seemed to be his preference, so far.

I am just catching up on this. Amazing. I am surprised it is not getting more press as this could be shaping up to be one of the worst serial killers in the country.

I instantly thought of Fred and Rose West whose house was also a house of horrors. Police unearthed several bodies in their backyard, including the body of their own 19 yr old daughter. This man has lived all over and no doubt travelled and murdered many females in his life.
he seems to have really gone on a killing spree,once he saw how easy it was to get a victim he just got bolder didn't he?

and when they walked by and turned the corner some could not breath.
