Sowell, 50, appeared in court Thursday morning.

He also faces several other charges in connection with an 85-count indictment.

No bond was issued. Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty.

good luck w/ that plea, monster!

I guess the reason LE was looking at the residence Sowell lived in 20 years ago is because during '88 - 89, three women's bodies were found in a vacant building close to there.

Bet anything it was him!

Sowell lived in the Page Avenue home in the late 1980s. In a 10-month period 1988 to 1989, the bodies of three women were found in abandoned buildings just blocks from the home.

EAST CLEVELAND -- Police units have arrived on Page Avenue at the former East Cleveland home of suspected serial killer Anthony Sowell.

According to a WKYC news crew, the FBI, East Cleveland, and Cleveland police are on scene with cadaver dogs.

Authorities say nothing in particular prompted this new search, only that police wanted to "leave no stone unturned" in their investigation of Sowell.

If you read the comments at the bottom of that article someone posted that one of the local news channels was reporting that they found 2 more bodies. I guess we'll have to wait and see if that's true. I really hope that it's not.

So far, I have seen that they didn't find any bodies. They did remove bags from the former East Cleveland home, though.

I am curious about what they found. He lived there in the 80's and the home has since been renovated.

CLEVELAND -- Fox 8 News has learned from Cuyahoga Coroner Spokesperson, Powell Caesar, that the 11th victim has been identified from accused serial killer Anthony Sowell's home.

According to Caesar, Diane Turner of Cleveland was identified Thursday. A DNA sample obtained from Turner's daughter was provided to confirm the positive match.

Fox 8 Reporter Jack Shea spoke to Turner's 8-year-old daughter, Denise Martin, at her guardian's home Friday. When asked if she missed her mom, she quietly answered, "Yes."

The little girl had not seen her mom since September of this year, about a month before the bodies were found. Denise's guardian, Jasneth Groves, says she had long suspected Turner would be found in Sowell's home.

"I was looking for her, everybody was looking for her because she's always on 116th Street, we haven't seen her so after they find the guy that killed the people or whatever, somebody said 'Denise's mother is in it', nobody was sure."

Turner was the second body found at Sowell's home. Investigators say she was discovered in a third floor bedroom. She was 38-years-old when she went missing in September of 2009.

Viewing this news clip brought tears to my eyes. Diane's daughter appears to be well cared for, and her eyes--despite the tragedy--seem clear, bright, and hopeful... as we should expect every 8-year-old to be. I hope she stays this way, her future is bright, she is comforted, and her family tragedy doesn't diminish her potential.

Anthony Sowell's cousin apologizes for the horrifying effects of serial killings: Phillip Morris

A letter postmarked in Illinois arrived in the mail this week at Ray's Sausage Factory on Cleveland's Imperial Avenue, site of the city's infamous serial killings.

Inside was a remarkable apology by Martha McKenzie-Jones, a first cousin of Anthony Sowell, the man who is charged with killing 11 women found at the Sowell family home next door to the sausage plant.

"Our family members across the country are horrified at what has happened in a house that was so welcoming and loving," the letter says. "I am so sorry for the effect it has had on your business and hope that you are able to continue in that location."

Even more remarkable is McKenzie-Jones' relationship to one of the serial killer's victims:

"Janice Webb, who was one of his victims, was my daughter's babysitter in 1979."

That's right. In 1979, when Webb was 18 years old, she used to babysit for McKenzie-Jones, the accused killer's first cousin.

Janice Webb disappeared in June.

By the Associated Press

CLEVELAND (AP) — A registered sex offender charged with killing 11 women and hiding their remains in and around his Cleveland home has agreed to let police fence off the house with barbed wire to preserve evidence.

Fifty-year-old Anthony Sowell (SOH’-wehl) appeared in court Wednesday with a new legal team that will defend him on aggravated murder charges. If convicted, he could face the death penalty.

The prosecution has not ruled out a possible visit by a trial jury to the home. At the hearing, both sides agreed to allow police to remove 24-hour patrols there.

Whoa that is quick! Usually it will be at least a year and sometimes two before they get to trial. Does Columbus have that much extra time available on their docket?

Seems quick to me too, but we are not there yet. So many delays can happen, we will see.

Final victim found at Anthony Sowell's home laid to rest

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Diane Turner, the 11th and final Imperial Avenue victim identified, was remembered today at her funeral in the Mount Pleasant neighborhood.

"She didn't bother nobody," said friend and co-worker Cortez Freeman, 54, who said Turner helped him repair homes. "She was a good person."

Turner would have turned 39 last month. She was last seen in September.

Turner is survived by her parents, four children and two brothers.

Judge leaves Ohio case of suspected serial killer

CLEVELAND — A newspaper says a county judge sent its staff e-mails expressing opinions about the Ohio case of asuspected serial killer that he was later appointed to oversee.

Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Judge Timothy McGinty stepped down from the Anthony Sowell case Thursday. Editor Susan Goldberg of The Plain Dealer says the judge sent e-mails marked "off the record" that created "an impossible ethical position."

McGinty cites a conflict of interest due to his efforts to change criminal justice practices.

McGinty has criticized police for releasing suspects pending indictment. Sowell was arrested and released without charges in 2008 after a woman alleged he attacked her. The remains of 11 women were found at his home this fall.

Three women who can ask the right questions in the wake of the Anthony Sowell case
Cleveland made national news in recent weeks after 11 women's bodies were discovered at the home of convicted rapist Anthony Sowell.

This city could make national news again -- and change how police departments across the country handle cases of rape and sexual assault -- because of three women charged with examining policies toward victims of such attacks here.

"The mayor gave us three objectives," said Teresa Beasley. "Examine current policies, look at best practices and make recommendations."

Mayor Frank Jackson appointed three professionals who are standouts in their fields. They also are mothers who live in the city of Cleveland. For them, this is not an intellectual exercise.

Beasley is 44, a former Cleveland law director and attorney with Vorys, Sater, Seymour and Pease LLP. Mary Bounds is 62, Cleveland's assistant safety director and, early in this decade, served briefly as the city's first female police chief. Megan O'Bryan is the 39-year-old president and CEO of the Cleveland Rape Crisis Center, one of the largest such organizations in the country.

They have 90 days to conduct an investigation and make recommendations. Mayor Jackson said at a news conference last week that he gave the commission no boundaries.

That's awfully eery, carbuff. Can other people look and see what they think? Can anyone do a side by side comparison? That would be very helpful.

I was over on the Grim Sleeper website, looking at the newly released age-enhanced sketches of the Grim Sleeper (LA Weekly article here: http://blogs.laweekly.com/ladaily/crime/grim-sleeper-serial-killer-ske/) They did three different sketches, quite different. Is it my imagination or does the middle one look a heck of a lot like Anthony Sowell???

As soon as this case, (Sowell), came to light, I looked back at the LA case. I believe some of the murders were when Sowell was in jail. That's why I personally couldn't connect them.

Just, fwiw,
