The Lucas County Coroner’s Office has found no anatomic or toxicologic cause in the death of 3-year-old Braylen Noble, whose body was recovered from a swimming pool Sept. 9 five days after he was reported missing.

Dr. Cynthia Beisser, a deputy coroner, said in a statement that a contributing cause was submersion in water, but “the manner of death is undetermined. This ruling reflects the circumstances of the death and also that nothing conclusive was found at autopsy.”

The ruling could change pending findings from police investigations, said Dr. Diane Scala-Barnett, Lucas County coroner.

The statement said:

"The death of 3-year-old Braylen Noble has been ruled as 'No anatomic or toxicologic cause of death' with the contributing cause 'Submersion in water.' The manner of death is undetermined. This ruling reflects the circumstances of the death and also that nothing conclusive was found at the autopsy. Death was pronounced on 9/9/20 at 1:20 pm. at 3415 Gibraltar Heights Dr., Toledo."

So submersion in water isn't the same as drowning?
If someone with knowledge of autopsy verbiage could explain, I'd be very grateful. Google isn't exactly clear on this matter.
This is from Nevada but I believe it's pretty standard throughout the U.S. perhaps with some small exceptions.
The cause of death is the specific injury or disease that leads to death. The manner of death is the determination of how the injury or disease leads to death. There are five manners of death (natural, accident, suicide, homicide, and undetermined).
What is the Difference Between Cause of Death and Manner of Death?

Submersion in water as a contributing factor likely means that there was sufficient evidence to conclude that he was submersed in water before or when he died (water in the lungs - this indicates a person was alive when they went into water), but that there likely is insufficient evidence from the tissues to confirm whether he died as just a result of drowning or if another biological mechanism contributed to his death (like cardiac arrest or a seizure). The manner is undetermined, likely because they either have not yet completed, or are unable to conduct, testing on the water found in his lungs against water samples from the pool, home, or other sources. If the water in the lungs is most similar to the pool, then the death was likely accidental. If the water is substantially different from what was in the pool, then the death occurred elsewhere and could have been a result of malice or neglect.

No anatomic or toxicologic cause of death
This is probably the more important part of the report. It means that after a thorough medical examination there were no serious injuries or poisoning discovered so it isn't a case of abuse being concealed as an accident. There's still the possibility of cold blooded murder with Braylen being intentionally drowned like in the Patricia Ripley case but these parents don't strike me that way.

Remembering Braylen Noble one year later

TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) - It’s been one year since 3-year-old Braylen Noble was reported missing and was later found dead in a swimming pool.

The community is still looking for answers in his death.

“It was just so sad and so tragic,” said resident Karl Brown.

A 911 call from the grandmother claimed the three-year-old boy, who had autism, fell out of a window at Hunter’s Ridge apartments.

“She was just screaming talking about he’s missing,” a neighbor recalled.

The resident, who didn’t want to share his name, says he and his wife looked for Braylen before police were called.

“We went in the woods. We went to the pool. We went and looked in the woods over near Swan Creek, abandoned houses, all around here.”

There were no signs of the little boy, who was nonverbal. Search parties were formed and volunteers were emotional.

“They were feeling kind of like they want justice no matter what,” said resident Kral Brown.

Firefighters used divers to search the swimming pool. They didn’t find the young boy. They asked for the pool to be drained and still didn’t find the boy. Police searched the apartment of the boy’s mother Dajnae Cox and his grandmother Bobbie Johnson, including a black Jeep registered to the grandmother.

13abc obtained a search warrant, and the documents detail how Cox told investigators the last time she saw her son he was in the apartment with her mother. Cox claims when she came back into the apartment from her balcony her mother told her that Braylen went into his bedroom and shut the door. She told police she went into her son’s room but he was not there.

People searched for Braylen for five days. When firefighters went back to the pool yet another time, the boy was finally found.

“He wasn’t in that pool. So that’s how everybody talking about how he get in the pool.”

“I know a lot of people might be looking for someone to blame but I’m just more like of the view that we just need to find out what happened,” said Brown.

The coroner’s officer was unable to find the cause of death. Detectives are tight lipped about the case. They have wrapped up the investigation and will present it to the prosecutors office soon.

IMO LE may believe there is a possibility that there was foul play if they are presenting what they have to the prosecutors office.

I'm sorry. He wasn't in that pool for days and days....until he was. This is foul play. Ever since cases like Caylee Anthony, people are learning how easy it is to cover up a child's death just by keeping their body hidden long enough to hide COD. I hate how easy it is for these people to get away with the deaths of their kiddos.
