OH OH - Richard Beasley & Brogan Rafferty, 3 Craigslist killings, Noble County, 2011

Man convicted in deadly Craigslist plot in Ohio

A self-styled street preacher accused in a deadly plot to lure men with Craigslist job offers and then rob them was found guilty of aggravated murder on Tuesday and could face the death penalty.

A jury in Akron returned the verdict in the case against Richard Beasley, who was charged with killing two men from Ohio and one from Norfolk, Va. A man from South Carolina was shot but survived and testified about running for his life and hiding in the woods, scared he would bleed to death.

Family members of the victims hugged and wiped away tears as the verdict was read. Beasley, who also was convicted of attempted murder in wounding the lone survivor, slumped in his wheelchair, which he uses because of back problems.

The jury that convicted Beasley will return later to consider whether to recommend the death penalty for him.

Beasley, who returned to Ohio from Texas in 2004 after serving several years in prison on a burglary conviction, testified that he met with Davis and that Davis was the one who pulled a gun.

"It misfired three times about 2 feet from my face, and I ran into the woods, and he ran after me," Beasley said.]

Beasley, 53, told her he believed the convictions would be reversed and he would be found innocent. "I want to make sure you understand: I have killed nobody," said Beasley, who was wearing prison red and white stripes and sitting in a wheelchair.

Who would believe his lies about Davis after what happened to the other guys? Just makes me :furious: that he attacks & lies about his victim and bet that didn't go over well with judge & jury. Beasley is used to people being hypnotized by his sociopathic lies but this time there is too much evidence and his goose is finally cooked!

Daughter of serial killer who hunted victims in woods speaks out

04/14/2016

"...for Tonya, the guilt sets in, and hits hard.

"I blamed myself for everything that happened because if I would have known he was using the Internet to do these things I wouldn't have shown him when he asked me about the Internet," said Tonya. "It was new technology to him, so of course I showed him all of these things. He had said he wanted to sell a few of his old things that he could no longer use, and i didn't think anything of it. I thought it would just help him make some side money."..."

Richard Beasley's latest appeal argues Ohio Supreme Court Justice Patrick DeWine should have recused himself because he's the son of state Attorney General Mike DeWine. The Ohio Attorney General's Office argued the case before the state Supreme Court, which upheld Beasley's death sentence Feb. 9.

The Akron Beacon Journal reports the U.S. Supreme Court will decide whether it will consider Beasley's appeal.

Death sentence for Craigslist killer upheld by Ohio Supreme Court

Feb 9, 2018

"CLEVELAND, Ohio --......The Ohio Supreme Court voted 7-0 that the evidence presented at trial was enough for a jury to convict him and that any errors he alleged either were not errors or were harmless.

The justices also voted 6-1 that the death sentence was appropriate. Then-Justice Bill O'Neill was the lone dissenter, relying on a dissent he wrote in a previous case that said the death penalty is unconstitutional.

"Without question, the aggravating circumstances in this case, Beasley's murder of three individuals as part of a single course of conduct, outweigh the mitigating factors beyond a reasonable doubt," Chief Justice Maureen O'Connor wrote for the majority....

....Beasley will likely ask the U.S. Supreme Court to review his case...."
