OK - Jacob Hedger, 8 mos, died of head injuries, Edmond, 8 March 2011

Four years after their baby son was killed, Zane and Leah Hedger still are frustrated no one has been charged.

In an unusual move, the Edmond couple filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the baby sitter, Traci D. Kramer, after investigations by Edmond police and a multicounty grand jury concluded with no arrests.

Kramer, 44, has long denied hurting the boy. After being sued, she countersued the Hedgers for libel and slander. She alleged they knew the boy was already injured when they left him in her care.

She also alleged they are responsible for sensational news stories and the creation of numerous websites blaming her for Jake’s injuries...

A judge in October 2013 threw out the countersuit...

Jake’s parents had hoped that Kramer would be forced because of the federal lawsuit to give them answers in a deposition about what happened to the boy. She refused in January to answer written questions about that day, exercising her rights under the Fifth Amendment to not incriminate herself.

The video deposition — where she would have to testify under oath — had been scheduled for Feb. 27.

On Feb. 20, she filed for bankruptcy — which automatically puts the Hedgers’ lawsuit against her on hold, possibly forever...

The Hedgers also sued the city of Edmond, an Edmond police detective, DHS and two DHS workers...

A judge has dismissed the city of Edmond, the police detective and DHS from the lawsuit but kept the DHS workers in it.
