On February 27, 2016, the body of Byron Sherritt was found. Almost a year and a half later, the case remains cold. Sherritt had been employed at Walmart and was homeless. Sherritt lived out of his van, often parking it at Bastendorf Beach's south jetty, which is where he was found last year. The 50-year-old hadn't been to work in nearly five days. A fellow employee knew where he liked to park and went to find him. Sherritt had been shot multiple times in the head.
Roxann Tiller, who at the time had been living in her car not far from where Sherritt's van was parked said she didn't see anything that night, but that she had heard noises coming from inside the van at some point before Sherritt's body was discovered. She added that somebody had placed aluminum foil on the van's windows.
