OR OR - David Grubbs, 23, Ashland, 19 Nov 2011

I have been thinking about it getting close to the anniversary. I'm sure many have been. I walk by there everyday. A bench and a light are being installed, a commemoration. The shed the murderer must have hid behind is still there. I wish they'd tear it down. It's awful, it's dangerous, and it's depressing.. ugly too, but that's not so much the issue. My thoughts are with David's family and friends, especially this time of year.

I guess there's just nothing happening with this and LE anymore. I imagine someone is still "on the case" but with nothing happening I'm not sure what that means in practical fact.

I'm a local, too, Manzanita. As fall has descended upon us, I often find myself thinking of David and his family & friends and of their loss, complicated by an unsolved murder. I find both the chill of the air and that eerie feeling and fear from last fall enveloping me again.

I am so glad there's a commemoration. I haven't been down to see it, but I will make a point to do so soon. *smiles*

Question: Who was it that mentioned a friend who had been held at an unknown Talent or Ashland location and horribly assaulted a couple of years ago? Am I nuts????

I do not recall 50 officers from any local police dept. ever being involved in any search in this area. Something must have broken loose.

Was it someone on the thread or an event in the news?

My memory is cloudy on this. I just remember something came up on a Cold Case and somehow crossed over to our David thread. I also got several PMs from a new member. Questions about an empty warehouse near Ashland, violence, a man.......

I seem to remember that this was concerning a crime committed in 2009-2010 and either the poster or me possibly connected it to David.

???????

Trying not to freak out but but my two young grandsons live in the student housing mentioned below. It's right around the corner from me and very close to where David was murdered.

3:30 p.m.: "Ashland police are searching an apartment at 72 Wightman Ave., Ashland, as part of the Grubbs murder investigation, Lt. Tighe O'Meara has confirmed.

The apartment is part of Southern Oregon University's family student housing complex. About five or six officers were on scene searching the residence, O'Meara said.

12:20 p.m.:police and search and rescue volunteers from across the region are combing a property on the outskirts of Talent, serving one of three search warrants related to the David Grubbs homicide case...."

Curious- the student family housing issomewhat transient so I wonder what they think will still be around. I mean, you have to qualify and then there are only a limited amount of semesters you can stay there.

50 officers? That is a good chunk of the RV police force.

They must have gotten a heck of a tip OR they are trying to stir the pot and see what surfaces...

***mods please remove if need be***this is my quick summary of news from tonight (6 pm broadcast)

from channel 5 medford news

3 search warrants
neighborhood in talent that was searched has pond. owners have grandchildren around age as Grubbs. LE makes clear that these people are not suspects now. Pond is maybe more obvious from street than other ponds in area.

Ashland- search in apt near where is was killed. Family in apt searched considered good people. FBI looks through cell phone for grubbs connection. Search warrant sealed document. Teenage kids at home.
Le says no suspects for now.

Grubbs best friend lived nearby in Talent at the time- (maybe why pond was searched)

Grubbs dad glad they are searching. he says Le doesn't tell him much.

Also, beyond the pond is the irrigation-ditch (according to Google-earth)
Hope they look there too, if they don't find evidence elsewhere.

My route took me by the search area on Rapp Road last night and it's hard to describe the sense of renewed hope that I felt that David's murder may be solved soon and he can truly rest in peace.

I popped in to get an update and saw a couple of WS rules issues. Please don't ask members to PM you and please don't discuss other WS members, past or present.

hoping the case is about to break.

interesting dot connecting below... thoughts? (my local connection tells me this person had previously spent time or has some connection to Ashland)

some other non related to the above coincidences. 1 of the locations that has been searched is 72 wightman rd ashland which is .2 miles from davids address (69 california st) the other property at rapp rd in talent is across the street from Davids "best friend" previous address

all very odd. again hoping LE finds whatever connection they are looking for (assuming its the weapon)

I had to search for the article, but I thought I remembered that EM had been cleared as being a suspect in David's case. Finally found it.

The other coincidences you noted certainly are of interest. There seems to be some sort of solid connection, IMO, as LE said they obviously have someone of focus otherwise they wouldn't be serving warrants.

thanks for sharing that kodi. i hadn't seen that.

really hoping for closure for the Grubbs family. the one year mark is next week.

my gut from the beginning was that david knew his killer and the attack was personal. i hope I'm wrong.

hmmmmm, anyone have any thoughts on why LE would focus in on 2 residences and a vehicle if the owners/residences weren't considered POIs? What am I missing? All 3 warrants are related to the same people. At first i thought perhaps they may have been past occupants - but the Jeep wouldn't have been.

There were three places searched:225 West Rapp Road, 72 Wightman, Apartment 1 and a jeep.

Police want to make it clear that right now, none of the residents are considered suspects or even people of interest in the case.

He said police have served about six similar warrants during the course of the Grubbs investigation.

"We have found stuff that has been useful in past warrants," said Corey Falls, Ashland police deputy chief. "Any time where we can continue to do work on this we do so. "… It has been a constant since last year."

stuff?
