“He and his wife had just returned home after picking up their daughter from the Hospital at the University of Pennsylvania, and the couple started arguing, according to Hanks. During that argument, Hanks said, his wife told him he “doesn’t do anything and just sits in his chair” and refuses to eat the food she prepares for him, according to the affidavit.

Hanks, in response, said he would “plug” her if she didn’t “shut up and leave him alone,” referencing the gun he was cleaning, the affidavit said. However, Hanks denied intentionally shooting her, saying he thought the gun was unloaded when it went off as he pointed it at her.”

He proceeded to shoot his daughter in the chest as she rushed at him after shooting her mother, and then called a neighbor who called 911. Roger Hanks later bragged to police about his marksmanship and his job as a hunter at a ski lodge out west.

Call me crazy, but if you want cops to believe you shot your wife because you couldn’t tell that the gun was loaded, maybe don’t advertise yourself as an expert gunsmith? Also, isn’t the absolute number one gun safety rule observed by responsible and practiced firearms owners “Always act as though the gun is loaded”—in other words, don’t go pointing it at anyone/anything unless you’re 100% willing to destroy/kill them/it?!

“The Pennsylvania man also told police that he drank two German beers and Irish whiskey earlier during the day of the tragic incident.”
