On Thursday, March 31, at 2:15 a.m., police responded to a reported abduction on 900 East Godfrey Street. When police arrived they were met by a witness who said he saw two armed men in black hooded sweatshirts exit a black Ford SUV and abduct a man, later identified as 48-year-old Wey Um. The men threw Um into the SUV and drove off, the witness said.

On March 6, a few weeks before his disappearance, Um had been robbed a block away from Oxford Tavern, a bar that his family owned where he worked as a bartender, investigators said. While Um never reported the robbery, police later released photos of a person of interest in the incident. Investigators have not determined if that person of interest was also involved in Um’s reported abduction or if the two incidents are connected.

• Wey Um was walking home from work at the Oxford Tavern on the 900 block of E Godfrey Avenue on March 31 when he was abducted.
• A black SUV pulled up next to him, two men got out and forced him inside the vehicle at gunpoint.
• "There is no trace of him," Deputy Commissioner Frank Vanore said in March. "There's no phone calls. There's no evidence that he's at a hospital or injured. So, we're very concerned for his well-being."
• The search for Um has continued since the abduction and the Federal Bureau of Investigation is also involved in the investigation.

Police continue search for Philadelphia man abducted outside bar 6 months ago

Police have released images of the SUV connected to the abduction and surveillance images of a person of interest.

A man closing a bar in Philadelphia was kidnapped at gunpoint six months ago.

His family asked Action News to conceal their identities.

"Everybody liked him and that's all that we know. And he never had any problem with any customer at all," a family member said.

Days after his disappearance, the case led authorities to the banks of the Delaware River, where investigators discovered articles of clothing believed to belong to Um.

The Citizens Crime Commission and Philadelphia police have announced a $10,000 reward for information that leads to Um.
